(Anonymous) 2023-12-06 09:46 am (UTC)(link)I've seen North and South gifs, maybe it's time to give it chance.
I believe there's no entertainment shows made about modern issues tho, only docu movies. TV supports consumerism imo.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-06 10:07 am (UTC)(link)The people who got slavery made illegal were those who just kept on about it. There was one guy who toured Britain for 10 years with things made by African tribes (combs, beads, etc) saying 'uh hi, these people are sophisticated and not savages like you've been told'. Then the rumours and stories from people who had been press ganged into crewing the ships. And most importantly, the voices of freed slaves themselves who composed pamphlets and were known figures. I think it was Darwin who learnt the art of taxidermy from a freed slave who was somewhat of a genius.
It all added up. But it's only when it builds to a clamour that everyone on the margins feels pressured to speak up. Before that the people talking about it were bores at parties who would prick your conscience about something you didn't want to think about.
Again, much like the evils of consumerism and climate change today.
