Yeah. I felt bad for being bothered and stuff by it because I felt initially like I should be honored to be asked a certain thing but... to be honest.. now that I think about it ...it's just like.. They just heard writer and thought I should/could be able to write anything. In theory maybe but.. I'm also a person who has certain strengths and weaknesses and just... I'm a PERSON who writes. And he didn't even mention anything about pay. I just hope maybe someone else he asked might have idk clued him in to "hey the person writing for you is doing a service. You should pay them"

TBH when I sought out ghostwriting from a bigger company it was wildly expensive and even finding like freelancers cost a good bit.
I never thought about that but.. really it's just presumptuous to go up to a writer and assume they'll be willing and happy to write you life story or something for free. Its sort of the same thing artists have when people try to use the "I'll pay you in exposure" thing. They're just assuming you should be willing and happy to create for them, not thinking of you as someone performing a service. Sometimes they think they're doing you a service by asking you.

It's insane

Yep. When I worked retail, our management 100% supported us kicking those people out and in fact would do it themselves on many occasions.

Look up the book "Dying of Whiteness".

Were there other people around or do you talk to a lot of other people at work? Because it sounds to me like he was trying to get his complaint about messy coworkers out in a passive aggressive sort of way.

Because they hate other people more than they love themselves.

So... four white men. Cool.

It was when we were alone. You're probably right. It just seemed very bizarre to me that he disguised his rant as a childrens book proposal.

I think he had heard me talking about it shortly before asking me in the hall "oh you write ? And proposing the idea.

In the moment I was just like ".....what?" At the weirdness of it.

It's not the first time I've been suggested a book idea I should write. But def one that stuck out lol

I mean, the white dudes are the only ones with decent movies, from what I hear.

I get that sometimes people get caught up in something, just all up in their heads or whatever, happens to everyone. But, damn, it would be nice if they could also have a little situational awareness. Weirdly, at some point, someone else might need to go down that grocery store aisle. Bizarrely, stopping in the middle of or right in front of that entrance/exit can block others. Strangely, the stoplight will change soon and everybody will want to go. If it takes a couple of seconds for people to realize they are in someone's way, I get that, but it really shouldn't take very much longer.

Having read some of the comic as an edgy teen as well as seen a few episodes...Yeah, the comic is way worse. Way, way worse.

Have you ever asked one of them why?

would I be guaranteed to get an honest answer?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-18 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, white women liking men of color is fetishization and a facet of white supremacy, so OP doesn't really have a choice.

I doubt they would even know.

Black Panther was great. Thor 3 and 4 were great and had one black star.

AYRT Fair, I honestly forgot about Black Panther. I've only seen the first few MCU movies (up until...the Avengers? I think?). I just remember people not being super big on the more recent movies which are more diverse.

I don't think you're really ever guaranteed to get an honest answer from anyone. But if you want to start to understand why someone identifies or believes the way they do, asking them is a good start.

Can't know unless you ask them.

People h+who demand to be reminded to do anything at all. This is your responsibility, you skiver. I've got enough on my plate. Do your own damn emotional labour like a dman adult.

I am so done with the MCU, even though I like all these actors. I’ll watch them in other films, thanks.

I have. Her father told her to.

As someone who works in retail and spends a lot of time schlepping heavy stock from storage to the shop, I feel this so hard. Even with arms/a trolley full of obviously heavy shit, people will still turn and stare after coming to a complete stop in front of me on a narrow pavement like "OH you are you trying to GET BY?"

I had a couple recently who had to be told three times to move out of the way of a wheelchair user, because they were so absorbed in staring at postcards.

Some people just have absolutely no spacial awareness and forget that while they've stopped to admire and photograph a particularly attractive signpost, there are people trying to work/just go about their day.

-Signed, a grumpy tourist hotspot retail person
