That was a fascinating analysis, thank you for the link.

Yeah, I don't like the later books when the focus shifts to Anne's children as the main characters. It's just... a bit too precious, occasionally repetitive and there are TOO MANY DAMN KIDS to be interesting or have individual personalities. Also, WWI is depressing.

Hello, fellow heart nonny! I feel your pain. Love the smell, absolutely cannot drink it or my heart will most likely just rocket out of my body into the sky

This is so petty, but I have an acquaintance who's also a neighbor as a FB friend and while I admire many things about her, her politics is eesh (not a vocal Trump supporter, but votes Republican) and she has this... slightly squicky habit where every time she and had family do something nice or expensive like go on vacation or eat at a fancy restaurant, she posts pics to FB and thanks her husband for being such a good provider and making this possible.

This lady keeps a household with three kids running like clockwork and is involved with her kids' school and numerous extracurricular activities, works for her family business, looks after her elderly parents and runs/promotes a large AirBnB property. She's not a slouch, she provides for her family and works hard, she's always helping people out... but thank you dear hubby for taking us on a beach vacation!

The one that sends me into fits of rage is when someone steps off an escalator and then stops dead to figure out where they're gonna go next. Hello! There are people behind you on a moving staircase, and they can neither slow down nor back up!

Close second: When people stop on or at the top of stairs. Usually hunched over their phones.

I suspect a lot of this would resolve itself in two to three weeks if all cell phone service ceased.

Hah. IME, people who don't write seem to believe that writers lack ideas or that coming up with ideas is the hardest part. No, the hardest part is finding the time/willpower to sit your ass down and write. I've got a billion ideas.

I have. I grew up in a very very red state. They just repeated talking points back, so either they're lying or they don't know and are just parroting what they've heard. I'm being generous when I say I doubt they know.

Same. Self-loathing and internalized misogyny, probably.

Did greghousesgf say she wanted to understand? Frankly, I can guess, and I don't want to get dragged into a conversation with someone with those toxic beliefs.

It's entirely possible hubby doesn't feel adequate/appreciated for his part and this is her way of showing he's important. But... knowing nothing about them outside of your post, those kinds of FB updates would probably make me cringe too. Even if he does bring in a lot of money.

AYRT

Same! Even as a child, I love the smell of the coffee aisle at the grocery store. I couldn't wait to try it when I was an adult. I had about an oz, discovered I hate the taste of coffee, discovered my heart condition, and now I just enjoy the smells while trying to fend off well meaning people who want to give me coffee or coffee gift certificates as gifts. It doesn't help that my office has exactly one business in the ground floor of the high-rise... a coffee shop. 😭

I... don't think ayrt was ordering her to ask questions.

+1, Ennis does write edgy bullshit comics. Sometimes they're funny and thoughtful edgy bullshit, but this one absolutely was not.

ayrt

Eh, people did this before there were cell phones and people without any apparent communication device do it now, so I don't think so.

I have no idea what book you're talking about, but your attitude plus alleged summary make me suspect it's a harmless book that you chose to take a reachingly bad faith read out of because you like being mad.

Arrogance. Think they're the good women because they LIKE being all the things Republican men want them to be. They like staying at home, they'll never have to work and face harassment in an office, they'll never have an unwanted pregnancy because they like having as many kids as possible, and so forth. And there's nothing inherently wrong with liking those things. But they think it makes them better than the women who don't, is the problem, and people love to feel superior and make their personal choices a moral superiority badge.

He was a minor supporting character on Parks and Rec, and he was supposed to be the big cheese on TWW but he got completely squeezed out by Sheen and BWhit because he's a scrub

You sound like an asshole. Thanking people for doing nice things costs nothing and feels good to do, and it usually makes them happy. I'm sorry if you do hard work you don't get thanked enough for, but the answer isn't to be upset that other people who have nothing to do with you are getting thanked for what they do for others.

Why don't you let OP like what they like without judging?
If you want to help people who aren't white men there are other ways you can go about it than attempting to shame someone for their tastes in fictional characters.
For the record, OP, I'd be intrigued to see Thor and Loki reunite but I'm not holding my breath.

I didn't say anyone was ordering anyone? But asking if greghousesgf had engaged this person in further conversation and pointing out that this is the way to understand them is a bit weird when greghousesgf hadn't expressed any interest and who can blame her...

Way to miss the point, but sure.

I hope this is it. I admit that her background of being conservative AND religious makes this feel very uber-traditional in a way that is a bit ugh.

He does not post any such thank yous, etc. for her hard work.

I'm a woman and though I haven't seen all of season three, I found it initially a refreshing take on the superhero movies that were saturating the market when it first came out (and I'm saying this as a fan of Marvel). I found The Boys to be a clever deconstruction of superheroes ie; what would happen in reality if someone can run at the speed of sound? (if they hit another person they would literally go straight through them). What if Superman- who is god-like, actually has a god complex?
I haven't read the comic but the series I gather is better and deals with things in a more nuanced way. For example, I was actually impressed with how it dealt with sexual assault in the wake of "Me too" (with the assault of Starlight and her regaining her power).
My experience of the series is that it is more than just going from one shocking gory scene to another.
(Oddly enough, I hated Game of Thrones because I perceived that show to be the very thing you describe, OP- thriving on shock value).

Tbh it's harder to stop having them.
I have more Big Idea™s than I have lifespan at this point.

All I know about The Boys is that a bunch of straight guys got crushes on Jensen Ackles once he was on it, and that it seems like... everyone is a bad guy?
