Oh, absolutely. But my point is that it's not something unique to sports anime, it's mirroring how a lot of people are about sports in real life.

As a super baseball fan who doesn't play but loves to watch, I can actually say we're not only MORE ridiculously serious and cringe, I can even say that sometimes in sports anime don't take the sport seriously enough.
