They're definitely sea slugs, the designs are really reminiscent. I love every single one of them. I also enjoy their female-neutral thing, especially when you find that they were getting neutral pronouns that they didn't like due to depersonalisation before. I get why the loli thing can be upsetting - it often upsets me - but it doesn't hit that way for me at all on Melusines, who usually have great writing around them. Maybe it helps I was already a Steven Universe thing? The alien lifeform doesn't do gender how you do, but they'll use female pronouns around humans because they've seen how you do female and they think it's close enough.

I mean, I know that's the design inspiration but they don't actually look like slugs at all. Only the ears/feelers are vaguely reminiscent and the rest is full Carebear mascot.
Perdonally, I don't really care that they're all female (though it is kinda weird that this was the case for a lot of the non-human NPCs in Genshin which is just unimaginative)- Neuvillette's pronoun voiceline was kinda awkwardly phrased though.
And the loli thing is annoying because it's just one character, the one who is playable, who for some reason just had to look like a human loli instead of a regular Melusine. So yeah, that's just weird.
