:/

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't quite understand.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Virtue signalling, mostly.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, gotcha.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
This is...pretty stupid. Even if it mattered, the woman is Muslim.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
But not brown enough to count on the diversity morality scale.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:07 am (UTC)(link)

i can see that some of the commenters here haven't scrolled down two secrets :v :v :v

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Seems like that be nice thing would apply more to the secret maker here.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
No one is obligated to agree with a secret poster and pat them on the back.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
?? No one is being a dick about it. They're just pointing out how OP is wrong.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Secret 7 says this should be a support group, though, so I imagine OP thinks people should not express disagreement.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Secret 7 says not to pick a fight. No one is doing that on this secret... Still no conflict with secret 7.

This is so...patronizing.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
But how does that change how much you enjoyed the book? Or do you only 'grade' books based on race?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I assumed that when OP talked about their reading list, it was a "books I want to read" list, not necessarily a "books I've read" list. But maybe that's just me?

I think you're right

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally interpreted "downgraded on my reading list" to mean they marked it down a grade (3 stars instead of 5 or whatever) on their list of books they've read. But now that you've pointed it out it definitely reads as a TBR list.

Sometimes my late night reading comprehension is less than stellar.

i mean if you're goal is to read more things from POC yeah. what is your goal exactly?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
To gain clout among their communally narcissistic white friends.

to be fair if this is genuinely a secret, then quietly doing this isn't useful for any type of clout-chasing

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
We had a secret like this before about a white woman author with an Asian married name. OPs, I think you should only read books by men from now on, to avoid being tricked by those sneaky, sneaky wimmins and their deceptive married names trying to make us think they're POC writing their own racial identity as all authors should.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Men like James Tiptree?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
This seems unfair. It doesn't sound like she objects to the fact that the writer is writing under their married name, but that they are focusing on reading diversely, so this book takes a backseat to someone who is genuinely from a culture/etc. I don't feel like there's anything wrong with that?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-14 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
well, that's your prerogative I guess, although you're missing out on some fantastic books
