I really loved DS9 back in the day, I really did. I've just got harsher on it with the benefit of hindsight and reflection, and with seeing newer shows take the parts of DS9 that were never meant to become the whole of the franchise and make them the whole of the franchise. With Voyager, while it is flawed, I can see it genuinely tried to keep the same soul and heart in its right place, even if it often fell short of its aims. I grew up, basically, and didn't need to be an edgelord of Trekdom anymore.

I do promise to never change my opinion on Neelix, if that helps.

But the thing is that all of these changes - literally anything I can think of that newer shows have done - it's not responding to DS9. It's literally all stuff that's following broader trends and changes in popular culture at large that extend way beyond DS9.

I suppose my reaction was to seeing something described as a cancer to elaborate a hatred of a thing just threw me. Reminds me of the rancid 4channers escaping their online enclosure back in the day.
