You might find it gets better with time, OP. I watched it when it came out so there's an age factor at play, sure, as I was younger and closer to the ideal audience age, but I really wasn't thrilled with the show until... Season two, I believe (it's been a long time, sorry). Sometimes you just gotta give it a chance.

And of course sometimes you do stick with it for longer and it's still not to your liking, in which case it'd be a pity but oh well. At least you tried.

As a huge fan of the show, I totally get this. I came into during season two and my partner got me into it. They had just watched it at work (we all sat staring at screens most of the time) so I had the benefit of someone who knew me being able to tell what to skip and they knew ultimately that the show would work for me.

I’d love to post a link to a no-filler viewing guide, but the fandom has always been torn about what can and can’t be skipped. I will say that in the last season there were a few really childish moments that threw me out of the scene and they were in some of the most important episodes. I wish I had the time and patience to do a super cut because the show has stuck with me for over fifteen years but I’ve never made it far on attempted rewatches.

I was never able to get into the show either, despite it sounding like something I'd enjoy on paper. I'm pinning my hopes on the live action now.

it's very classically kids show-ish so i don't blame you. i just like kids shows, but i totally understand people who feel beyond that. i do wonder about the tone of the netflix show, because lbr the core audience is unlikely to be kids, and i can't tell from the announced changes which way they're going.

Yeah, me neither. I think I wasn't the right age for it

Start on episode 3 of s1. You'll get enough background from the recap, and then you'll get right into the action. I struggled with s1 e1&e2.

I was "too old" for the show when it came out, and I didn't even watch it until after half of Korra had come out.

I watched this show recently for the first time at 30+ years old and I enjoyed it quite a lot for what it was: a show for kids/teens. It was fun! Loved some of the characters!
I then tried to get into the fandom and fanfiction and AH... UHM NO THANKS.
Even if I found some stuff that was very well written I just couldn't get into it.

Might I recommend the Kyoshi and Yang Chen novels by FC Yee? They have a more mature tone and I myself loved the hell out of them.
