Okay; I've got a huge stack of Hellblazer trades that I read back in the day, and read Swamp Thing and Sandman where he shows up, but I haven't kept up with the comics and of all the filmed versions, I've only seen the "in name only" Keanu Reeves film, and modern Johanna Constantine in the Sandman tv show.

I prompted this and no one ever took me up on it, but apparently at least one version of Constantine dated/fucked King Shark?

I want to read the fanfic (or admire the fanart) where through some spacetime anomaly or magic gone wrong or whatever, all the versions of Constantine meet up, just for-

"... you fucked the shark?"

"He's fit as hell and has two dicks."

It'll probably never happen in canon, but I just want to see all of them going from aghast/boggled to intrigued/jealous in ~five seconds.

I hear you, OP. This show's return was one of the things (along with X-Files) that taught me you can't go home again and sometimes it's better not to bring stuff back. I've tried to forget that last season because while I wasn't NOT a Logan/Veronica shipper, I wasn't that invested in it. But if they were going to go in that direction, oof, that was bad. I didn't like that Veronica was so into violent bad boy Logan because it felt kind of toxic and like she hadn't really grown up at all. Regressed is more like it. It's not like I wanted Logan to turn into Mr. Rogers, but surely there was a better balance that THAT? And honestly, the ending felt like a big fuck you to the fans.

I wasn't even a Logan/Veronica shipper and I think that ending was trash. (My take was that they understood each other very well but often brought out the worst in each other too.) Why can't Veronica ever move on to anything positive in her life? Why the constant soap opera resets?

Relatable. It's not that I don't want other people to write my OTP, it's just that I wish they'd do them justice instead of sloppily fitting them into tropes that barely make sense considering what we know of them in canon... There's people's individual interpretation and then there's people refusing to interpret anything and sometimes just writing original fiction using characters' names. Which, okay, all the power to them, but lmao does it have to be with my OTP?

Pettiness can be a good motivator for writing, though, just as long as it doesn't become an actual attack against those who write the ship differently.

"Got to do everything myself around here" is a very good motivator for writing, I find. As a bonus, odds are an IC fic would find an apopreciative audience if the recent trend is OOC.

I've lucked into a popular OTP, so even though a LOT of people write bad, OOC versions of my faves, with each other and otherwise, there IS a lot of good stuff that more or less fits in with how I interpret them.

Unfortunately, there's one specific AU/trope that I LOVE, and that smaller subset of the fandom? Attracts the MOST OOC fics.

The characters aren't *exactly* Manly Man/Sensitive Guy, they're both more balanced than that, but like... canonically it IS true that Character A is much more physically active, and it's reflected in his physique, Character B is about the same height but slighter. He's not weak but he's not a big guy and he doesn't work out or do sports for fun. So I was prepared for him to be portrayed as shorter or slimmer than he actually is, because I've been around the block...

NOPE. Character B is now six feet tall, effortlessly strong, very macho and (unlikeliest of all) a sex god. Character A, the buff guy who's canonically had a lot of sex? Slender, beautiful virgin in his lip gloss and panties. A pretty princess.

You might find it gets better with time, OP. I watched it when it came out so there's an age factor at play, sure, as I was younger and closer to the ideal audience age, but I really wasn't thrilled with the show until... Season two, I believe (it's been a long time, sorry). Sometimes you just gotta give it a chance.

And of course sometimes you do stick with it for longer and it's still not to your liking, in which case it'd be a pity but oh well. At least you tried.

Fandom Inspired/Fandom-related books

I have gotten interested in a sort-of 'genre' or category of book that's either inspired by a fandom or takes place in a fandom-related setting (like a convention).

It started with Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, a story about a fanfic writer that had lead to the Harry Potter/Supernatural inspired Carry On spin-off series - which I found entertaining to read, despite being disappointed with the ending. Also Queen of Geeks by Jen Wilde that takes place at a convention (which I found to be disappointing) and the short Tokyopop manga series Dramacon by Svetlana Chmakova

Then last month I had read Y/N by Esther Yi - which is a surreal take on a Kpop fan and fandom which I actually liked a lot more than I had expected; and right now I've just started reading the infamous Ship It by Britta Lundin.

So I was wondering if anyone had any other recs for books like these? I'm intending to leave 50 shades of Grey til 'last' and I'd also happily take any non-fiction recs too.
