Re: What do you hope to see more of soon in upcoming media?

More telling a completed and well developed story; less making shit up as they go along or changing everything because god forbid fans noticed themes and extrapolate plotlines.

Also gimme more queers!

Be fair, there's also an over-saturisation of Edinburgh occasionally!

But seriously the map of Scotland to pop culture and tourists is basically the A82/NC500 and nothing else. It is pretty annoying, especially when it feels like your home is being treated like a theme park. The frustrating thing is I LOVE the Highlands too, it's all very pretty but...there's so much more to Scotland and the Highlands also contains people who need to live/work and get on with their day.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves made me happy. Inspired me mentally. Also got me interested in general D&D lore.

Happy movies. Positive movies. Fun movies. In general, but particularly with scifi and fantasy.

More standalone psychological drama works. Barring that, I'll take a wild reimagining of some Shakespearian work.

Edinburgh is Highlandsism incarnate. Even bloody Pitlochry doesn't play the Highland card ad much as Edinburgh does. Ask yourself, though, when was the last time you saw Stranraer in the media?

I think about the cinematic techniques implemented in Macbeth (2018) a lot. I rewatched it again this week and while it is not a great adaption of the play, far from it, I still respect the film for its aesthetic sensibility and general vision.

I swear this is the last time I'll bring up BG3 for at least a week, I promise, buuuuut I absolutely adore the Gauntlet of Shar. It just gets better and better with each playthrough and revisit. Love exploring it and had a lot of fun with the little puzzles, party banter and reactivity are just right, and it is so goddamn funny strutting into the temple and having that one statue of Shar blowing all your teammates away after getting smacked pointblank in the face by a force field. Peak comedy. Anyway, yeah, Act 2 inspired a handful of creative projects from me, both fanfiction and original work.

Good space horror.

Um, I guess Rich Moore could have watched Loving or caught a guest turn of his on Murder She Wrote or something and based the character design on him, but I kind of doubt it.

Never heard of the actress but now I want to see how she looks with Tenoch Huerta's Namor.

More sci-fi films with a hopeful edge and bite to them. Not sugary 'rah-rah everything will be alright' toxic positivity bullshit; as someone who is very glum about the future, I absolutely loath that particular brand of hope. But I do want more movies that encourages actively participating in the exploration of different potential paths mankind might take when shit one day really hits the fan. Things will get worse for us as a species but I do believe we have the capacity to work through whatever we run into as we make our way forward together through time and space.

I'm sure gamers wouldn't complain about sheer cliffs being everywhere or whine about that breaking their immersion.

This secret reads like nonsensical subtitles.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
A 48 year old man and a 35 year old woman is not a bad age gap at all by Hollywood's standards! And it's not like the characters' age gap is consistent and always the same in the source material.

I don't necessarily love the Pascal casting just because I don't know if he's right for the way I see the part; Pedro Pascal is very warm and Reed isn't, always. But for Pete's sake, it's not typical Hollywood. Typical Hollywood would have been casting a 23 year old, not a fucking 35 year old.

Is he going to be continuing?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, is there like a problem of Marvel movies having nonsensical subtitles? Granted I'm not caught up on all of them, but I can't say that's a thing I've noticed from the ones I've watched.

Have you read the graphic novel "The Hiketeia"? It's about Wonder Woman training Batman with Amazonian rites thrown in. It's not about sex but it may be very relevant to your femdom leanings.

Advice

Concert goers, I’m going to my first ever concert at 38 in four weeks (P!nk) and I don’t want to miss a thing.

I have a general admission standing floor ticket and I’m wondering how soon I need to get to the venue in advance for a good spot, but I also have bladder incontinence. I’m already planning on avoiding things that upset my stomach the whole day/day before, but was wondering what general advice you’d have.

And what’s some tips you wish you’d had at your first concert?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
First of all, no, gamers would not forgive them.

Second of all, you...used an image where the climbable areas are clearly marked. And the thing is that that's usually the case! While all cliff faces are naturalistic, there's almost always something that sets the climbable surfaces apart. In some games, it's more subtle, or it has to be actively toggled (e.g. using the Focus in Horizon Forbidden West), but it's still present.

+1, your plot should be guessable by some of the audience, as one of many competing theories, not as the only way. Also more streaming stuff weekly rather than in a big dump.

Holy shit that sounds so hot.

Re: Advice

(Anonymous) 2024-02-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I’ve never been to one of her concerts but as a general rule for GenAd, it’s a good idea to get there about 90 minutes before the opening act.

For the incontinence, something like depends is a great idea. I have the Amazon Basics version and they’ve saved me twice in crowds where getting to the bathroom quickly isn’t an option. I intentionally dehydrate myself if I’m going to be out for more than four hours or so, or if I’m in a crowded environment where it’s practically guaranteed the line for the bathroom will be measured in 10 minute intervals.

Everyone is different so this may not work for you, but drinking bottled or canned soda helps me. I’ll be thirsty because of intentionally dehydrating myself, and the dehydrating properties of soda have a stronger impact on me than the diuretic effect of caffeine. Fountain soda goes right through me though :(

Have fun and sing loud and make friends!

I want more "down time." I want more moments where characters get to actually enjoy something; where things go right for them; where we see who they are, as opposed to what circumstances force them to be.

I am so sick of frenetic media, where Something is happening constantly. I'm sick of the relentless march of set pieces. I'm sick of conflict for conflict's sake, and no one getting along, and all attempts at honest communication ending poorly. I want breathing room. I want to care about characters because I've seen what they're like when the threat meter isn't at 11; because I've seen that they have meaningful relationships, and lives that are worth living. I'm sick of everything being fucking awful for everyone all the time. Even at its worst, real life isn't like that.

I want long seasons of TV shows that get released weekly. If not the full 24-26 episodes treatment, at least more like 12-15 that release, and without an extended break in the middle of the season. Doing one half of a season with six episodes and then waiting a year before the second half of the season comes out isn’t a 12 episode season, it’s two six episode seasons.
I need character development and the current form of tv shows just doesn’t do it for me.

That age gap is well within social norms, and nowhere near Hollywood standard. If she were in her early-mid 20s, that would be normal Hollywood.
