Babylon 5 would have been fun when it was currently airing. Doctor Who in the classic era. Star wars when the OT came out. Lord of the Rings fandom before the movies.

My memories of OT Star Wars fandom when the movies came out involve slash being officially forbidden to the point where it was very underground and very few zines even existed for it in SW fandom. There were lots of arguments about whether Luke or Han deserved to get the girl, and obnoxious Luke vs. Han character-stanning wars. Lando was also bashed a lot for capitulation to Darth Vader in TESB. So, it was pretty much fandom as usual.
