LOLOL, is the pic OP waiting for fan snobbery to go away?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-20 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I mean. Find different parts of fandom.

Love that art.

What is milfic that isn't mother-in-law fic or milf-ic?

Maybe someone is writing a really involved AU fic where a bunch of sci fi characters are employed at the Lowell textile mills in the 1840s

Military fic, apparently.

Tbh I'd read a lot more of the genre if milfic were actually milf-fic...

I think it's usually called milsf or military SF, I don't know if I've ever seen milfic before. Probably for obvious reasons.

But like, it's a big genre. Prominent examples include everything ever published by Baen Books.

That particular snobbery has been around since at least the 1950s, sometimes it bubbles up but it never goes away.

I thought we were sneering at the military sci-fi now.

Where?

I see secrets like this and I'm always baffled. I'm in quite a few book groups, though nothing specifically for scifi, and I've never seen this kind of snobbery you're talking about. I mean sure once in awhile you'll get a one off, but mostly people just like to rave about what they like and mostly seem to either people join in or scroll by.

But it's also funny because I hang around a lot of "low stakes" and "cozy" book spaces and those places love low key scifi. Nobody every raves or looks for hard scifi or military stuff. So it's just funny to me how varied 'fandom' experiences can be.
