I see secrets like this and I'm always baffled. I'm in quite a few book groups, though nothing specifically for scifi, and I've never seen this kind of snobbery you're talking about. I mean sure once in awhile you'll get a one off, but mostly people just like to rave about what they like and mostly seem to either people join in or scroll by.

But it's also funny because I hang around a lot of "low stakes" and "cozy" book spaces and those places love low key scifi. Nobody every raves or looks for hard scifi or military stuff. So it's just funny to me how varied 'fandom' experiences can be.
