Fairly left-leaning and pretty interesting to listen to.

Is he a right-wingnut? He looks like one, some of his clickbaity doesn't sound like one. I'm sick of being suckered into rightwingnut videos tho.

And as usual, it all comes down to class in the end.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
DA

How so?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The same aesthetic that signals "right wingnut" lines up with the aesthetic of rural, working class people. He looks like most guys in my county, which is the poorest county in my state. It's also solid blue -- but because certain class signifiers have been married to political ones, the assumption is in the opposite direction.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Most rural white counties in America vote extremely red. That is not an association that people invented out of prejudice. That is a political reality of American life.

If you live in a rural white county that votes blue, it's an extreme outlier.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
On the other hand, there is a reason people write them all off and shy away from examining why they vote the way they do, going for the easy explanation of, "they're stupid and racist." It's absolutely a reflection of the class divide.

I think the reason that rural white conservatives vote the way they do is because they have deeply held social conservative views and so they vote for the socially conservative party. That's my opinion - I don't know if that's writing them off.

I'm only halfway through, so to be fair, I don't know what the conclusion of the vid is but, philosophy tube's video on cities seems to want to address some of what you're saying:

No, he is not.

No, he's a fairly sensible hillbilly who is also liberal/left.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Anon in the comment above hit it on the head with the classism. Take a look at yourself maybe, anon.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
LOL wut?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
As a non-American, I’m not sure I’m reading whatever class markers you’re talking about.

Is it the hat and the beard? Are they typically lower class? Rural? Lower class and rural?

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I would say they're rural, but... rural white Americans are overwhelmingly conservative and right-wing, including in Appalachia, so I'm not sure how it's classist to make that association.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, that’s helpful

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT is leaving out that the difference in political affiliation is a reflection of the class divide in the US: white liberals and white conservatives overwhelmingly belong to different classes than one another, and the contempt they have for each other flows from that.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-27 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Bullshit.

The differences are not primarily class differences. They are primarily cultural differences, social differences, geographic differences. Not primarily class differences.

And tbh it's a hell of a lot more socially acceptable for rural and exurban conservatives to express disdain for urban liberals - not just disdain but active foaming at the mouth hatred - than anything close to the reverse. I mean people ITT are trying to say it's classist to state the empirical truth that rural white conservatives vote for Republicans; compare that to the kind of wild things that Republicans can say about Americans in cities and it's considered totally normal politics.

From the secret OP: Thank you, Secret Maker!

I really like the look of this secret. It works wonderfully.

Likewise, as I said in the comments, this channel leans far more in the progressive direction. It's part of the liberal redneck niche of YouTube (could even be considered the OG of said niche).

Cool to see a secret for this!
Him and Trae Crowder are interesting.

Beau!

Hilariously, I don’t interact with the comments, I just listen to him. Not helpful to you, but it makes my world better.
