I don't actually know, sorry. As far as I can tell with both of these, there isn't just one point of reference, but a lot of different ones. A lot of the versions I've seen have just so many different bits and pieces from different writers and different times that I'm not sure what would constitute a straight retelling. However, if you were to have just one source, then I guess I could see it.
