You want a straight retelling of the legends and folklore? Which ones? For King Arthur, the historical sources that were written 300 years after the one of the guys who was possibly Arthur (or Arturus, Artōrius, etc.) lived, Monmouth's version written 600 years after Arthur, de Troyes' version that added to Monmouth's, Malory's version written 900 years after Arthur, or something else? For Robin Hood, one of the different 15th Century ballads, Stow's version, one of the many different 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th Century stage versions, Pierce Egan the Younger's children's version, Pyle's children's version, or something else?

Not op but I would die if joy if someone made a Robin Hood film based on Pyle's version. I LOVED that book as a kid. I would also die if joy if someone made a movie based on any part of Monmouth's Historia. That book is a RIDE

I also read Pyle's version in primary school and I had so much trouble remembering who wrote it! thanks for giving me a name to look up, anon

No I don't know what this secret means. This is mythological shit it differs through the years. It supposed to have different takes.
So you wanted a musical comedy? Fair. Just say so

ayrt

I don't actually know, sorry. As far as I can tell with both of these, there isn't just one point of reference, but a lot of different ones. A lot of the versions I've seen have just so many different bits and pieces from different writers and different times that I'm not sure what would constitute a straight retelling. However, if you were to have just one source, then I guess I could see it.

yeah i agree what is "traditional" or "straightforward"? no adaptation of folklore is not translating it through a current sensibility at any rate.
