I've never seen someone do this, I won't rule out that it happens but given how much fanfic there is out there unless they're writing for a very small niche I cannot imagine this would really bring in much money at all because you can just... go find more.

I don't agree with your statement about working on something fun vs the capitalist grind(and how difficult writing jobs can be to get), but you are free to find them pay-walling future fic annoying because I wouldn't engage with that either.
