hmm that's interesting to me because besides a bit of fladerization, i don't think there's anything in their later appearances that isn't present in their first ones. i think for me xander's traits were enhanced without gaining complexity, which since i disliked him made him worse, and tony's were enhanced but gained complexity, which i liked.

Well, it could be argued that the reason they are worse later on is because they don't change. That's my personal issue with Tony. The same journey in each movie, only to be back to where he was. Xander was far worse even from the beginning to me, though, so I disliked him all along. But Tony was cool in the beginning until he never changed and everything became about him even during other people's stories.

This is really interesting to me because I dropped out of the MCU after watching Age of Ultron and I still like Tony. But I didn’t like IM3 or Ultron so when I think of Tony I only think IM1 & 2 and the first Avengers movie.

yeah i mean i disagree with you about tony pretty strongly, especially that he's worse! i think there's a core theme of fear and control in tony's appearances and he deals with them differently and informed by the other movies every single time.

but again, i'm pretty out of step with this fandom. the character who has faults that are never examined and never changes to me is steve, so. like i just don't think i should want to follow bucky more than steve in his own movies. i don't think it's tony's fault the writers didn't want to follow steve.

queenslayerbee: Isabelle Adjany as Lucy Harker in 1979's "Nosferatu the Vampire". She's surrounded by darkness, looking over her shoulder while she wears a white nightgown and a cross as a necklace. A hand with long nails like a claw is reaching for her neck from the darkness behind her. (Default)

I agree with you on all accounts in this thread.

i don't think it's tony's fault the writers didn't want to follow steve.

like. I vaguely remember they talked about steve like their pet character and YET 🤣

i just don't think "has exactly one philosophy and doesn't change it" gives people a lot of places to write which is why he's always surrounded by more lively and conflicted character.

DA

i don't think it's tony's fault the writers didn't want to follow steve.

???? No character is at fault for anything the writers do... I don't like characters because of their actions, I like characters because they're likeable. Tony became annoying, therefore I stopped liking him. Doesn't matter if it was his "fault" or not.

this comment is not giving me confidence that you followed this conversation, but suffice it to say that if someone is upset that tony has a large presence (aka "makes it about himself") in "other people's stories" that is indeed directed at the writing.

Your comment isn't giving me confidence that you followed my three sentences. You said literally "i don't think it's tony's fault the writers didn't want to follow steve." which implies that people who don't like tony are punishing him for the choices of the writers, and we're being unjust by not liking him. I was pointing out that I wasn't disliking him because I liked Steve more and was upset that the writers didn't put him into everything like they did with Tony... I disliked him because the writers started writing him like shit. He's a fictional character and as soon as he becomes annoying I stop liking him.

your confidence isn't really worth a lot since it doesn't imply this even a little bit. let me help you out:

person1: A and B
person2(me): I don't think A and if B then C
person3(you): wow it's crazy you think A and B = C
person2: no if B then C. (what's actually implied: A is independent).
person3: All A and B are just C to you. Ridiculous.

good luck on that reading comprehension.

You did say one true!

but again, i'm pretty out of step with this fandom.

a non-sequitur response! what a confirmation.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-29 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you actually want to discuss this or are you just looking for a fight? Because your tone and style imply the latter.
