lemon and talking scenes are like 40+. I'm saying this as an 35 yo fic reader.

As a 41 yo, lemon/lime is from my literal teens, i.e. the '90s. A 25 year old wouldn't have been born yet lmao.

This is how all history flattens, isn't it. We're seeing it right now.

Interesting, I'm in my late 20s and recall seeing a good deal of it in the 2000s, when I was in grade and middle school. I don't remember much about the fic I wrote back then (perhaps for the better...) but I'm pretty sure I had author-character script convos and remember using the terms lemon and lime for sure. Maybe some of that was younger fans copying what we saw done in fic from the 90s? It probably also depends on the fandom and group how terminology and fic shifted over the years.

I'd be curious where you were hanging out during this time. When I went to LiveJournal in 2002, people were mostly calling it smut. But some of the anime boards I lurked on where still using the citrus scale into the mid-00s.

Fanfiction.net, deviantart, and various forums are places I heard it most often. Maybe lemon stayed in common usage longer in anime fandoms?

It definitely hung around in anime fandom longer. Whoch is interesting!

Its actually the only space I saw it used and I entered fandoms spaces in the early 2000s.

Agreed! I'm 42 and that stuff was seen as "old" (or at least starting to) when I found fandom in my late teens/early 20s.

That has to depend on the fandom, surely - I'm 34 and remember lemons, limes, talking scenes, mini plays with the characters at the end objecting to what happened in the chapter when I was 12-15.

Came here to say this. I’m quite a bit older than 25 and these things were barely still around when I was online as a teen.
