Wait, Rey is getting her own movie?! *swoon*

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Kylo/Ben is the love interest, so I'm not sure why it would be so bad to bring him back.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
He died

That's because a lot of Reylos (not all, before anyone comes at me) are far more concerned about Kylo than they ever have been with Rey.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Het shippers in general tend to be way more into the male half of the pairing.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
You say that like it's a bad thing.

OP

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
It really feels that way :(

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
I shamelessly admit it when I care more about one half of my OTP than the other, and I don't understand why it's a bad thing!

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they're gonna make that movie, nonnie.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Funny how a female character can be the protagonist of her story and yet if she gets a romance in that story, some will see her as "reduced to a love interest." Funny how this is never said about male protagonists who get a romance. And the people who say this think they're the feminist fans.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I mean it's not exactly wrong to say that the predominant factor driving fandom interest in Reylo is Adam Driver being hot

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
The cultural milieu currently is that romance with men is a net negative for women. The empowering thing is for a woman not to fall in love or get into a relationship with a man. Within this framework, a female character who has a het romance is meeting the needs of men, not her own.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not into Star Wars but this really is a thing that happens. See Bones for example: you have a great female lead but as soon as she and the male lead get together it turns into "he was right about everything also babies ever after." The female character loses her ambition, drive and primary place in the narrative because they think otherwise audiences won't deal.

It's not always the case - see Veronica Mars - but there is such a thing as reducing the female character to the "love interest" rather than an actual person.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
It’s not that she’ll be seen in fans’ eyes as reduced to a love interest, it’s that we don’t trust the studios not to reduce her to a love interest in her own movie. Hollywood still can’t write women.

Because most of woman-led movies are romance and most of man-led films are action movies?

If you are feminist, don't you want to see films where the female character is just the love interest and also movies where she's not?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I would be delighted if he comes back as a Force ghost.

OP

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
I could live with a cameo as a Force ghost but not with a full resurrection.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I only saw the first movie of that trilogy and I am boggled that Kylo Ren, the empire asshole who killed his own father, beloved rapscallion Han Solo, somehow becomes a love interest of the heroic ass-kicking Rey. I'm so revolted I can't tell you. Did he die heroically or something and everyone decided that was enough to redeem him? Redemption isn't a single act. Redemption is years and years of hard work ironing out those ruts of bad behavior.

The straight people in this thread feeling threatened by people who would prefer not to have to sit through yet another female character being badly treated by an industry famous for treating its female characters a lot worse than its male characters (especially when they are coupled together, as another anon pointed out) is through the roof, lmao. The suggestion of some strange sort of cultural "heterophobia" has got to be the cherry on top. Incredible trolling.

Anyway, I agree, OP. Just by the reactions the secret has brought up, man, I agree 100%. Let the dude stay dead. The shippers are already all over tradpublishing anyway and I'm pretty sure that even they might agree their ship is better treated by these fan authors going pro (as well as the ones who aren't) than any new films would.

Given what I've heard of the rest of the sequels, it sounds like that wouldn't even be the worst writing decision they've made.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the only reason I'd watch more Star Wars movies.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-05 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The film is going to cut to Oscar Isaac in "Rise of Skywalker" saying, "Somehow Kylo Ren returned". And "Kylo Ren" will be AI'ed in and Disney will forget/run out of money to alter his lips so on screen we'll still see Oscar Isaac's lips mime "Palpatine".

And when Kylo Ren and Rey go out on their date they'll tell everyone, "Didn't Poe tell you? Kylo Ren returned."

The End.
Give Disney $1.3bil and that will be considered a disappointment and Adam Driver will be replaced in the third film by Chris Pratt as the new Kylo Ren

I don't care about the Reylo relationship or lack thereof, but auuugghh do we need another of these spinoff kind of things? Could we just give it a rest?
