You can get fireproof fabrics which aren't made of asbestos these days. Things have moved on a bit since the eighties.

Not always.

For people with allergies, yes. But manmade fibers have a lot of plastic in them that not only make for less breathable fabrics and aren't as long lasting as natural fibers, but also pollute the environment and aren't sustainable in regards to manufacturing.

I don't have allergies to fabrics, so my go-to is merino wool underlayer with a cotton or raw silk top layer. I try to avoid synthetics whenever possible.

nope. I mean, I'm still wondering what the actual detrimental effect of microplastics is to our internal workings, but acrylics shedding microplastics every time I wash them is a full on reason not to ever have any in my wardrobe.
