I spent so long looking up books about evil forests before I realized this secret was about the idea that aliens want to kill you.

And yeah, it’s idiotic. If one alien species is that genocidal and that successful with it, then not allying with ANY alien species will get you genocided. It’s implausible that humanity is uniquely equipped to fend off a threat that keeps purging everyone else.

(I think it’s a moot point anyway because we’ll never have FTL, but that’s the boring real-universe answer.)

I subscribe to Iain M Bnaks moist forest hypothesis instead. He posits that as soon as we discover sapient alien life, we want to have sex with it. Instead of a galactic turmoil of war, it is people just discovering there are far more interesting things we can do instead. Also, you should never use a blacklight in the moist forest.

You can choose? That's cool if so! I like Cloud/Tifa myself but I'm not active in the fanbase in any way but I like the option of being able to pick, I don't doubt the fandom is... less than chill about this but I think that's neat if you can.

And not choosing is also perfectly valid, you do what makes you happy in your game OP. :)

I haven't played any new FFs beyond FFX-2. Is that still a regular occurrence?

Same. At this point, the only ship I care about and play the game for is a villain rarepair. I dislike both options for Cloud but as long as I don't get the Aerith date I don't really care anymore.

Yeah... Things got really out of hand there, and GW were asleep at the wheel in regards to where a lot of their fanbase was going. They have, slowly, woken up to it though and are walking back a lot of the stuff that could be seen as making fascism look cool. And they have very publicly repudiated those fans who thought that was the case.
