Thank you so much, OP.

I appreciate you. <3

I mean, a lot of times, they're doing it because people are telling them that it's what they need to do to make things right. So...they do it, and then people (often the very same people who were saying that a public apology was needed) react as you have here: they take it as an egoistic bid for attention.

"You need to apologize" is basically always a trap.

I believe there are other women like you because I've seen them say things *exactly* like this. It's not new, it's something slash shippers (and bromance fans; I once saw a woman saying something very similar to this, but without the romance part because she was a homophobe) have been content saying for years. Decades, maybe. Can't relate at all, because I'm basically in the other end of the spectrum, but... beyond fandom, this level of insecurity about fictional women who *literally cannot compete with you in any way* is bizarre to me, I really can't wrap my mind around it. Perhaps this is not something you guys should be *content* with, just saying.

Congrats anon you win the thread.

Yeah if this is a true opinion and not just rage-bait then OP really needs to do some inner thinking, because this kind of mindset is not healthy at all.

What fanon changes that everyone seems to accept do you absolutely love?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
For instance, in My Hero Academia fandom a lot just accept that Mineta is gone or was never there (usually replaced by Hitoshi). As someone who hates Mineta, this pleases me.

The thing about M/M ships being popular is that you can't really blanket 'every' fandom with the same thing because obviously every fandom is different one way or another.

Like the really obvious one is a show with more male characters than female characters, with the former getting more back story/character growth and the latter getting next to nothing due to shitty writing. People watching a show like that are more likely to get inspired by the characters getting more characterization than the ones who's main character arch is 'fall in love with character and have a personality of a loaf of bread' - hence the inspiration behind m/m relationships and their dynamics, whereas more often than not to create any f/f fanworks in those kind of fandoms - you have to put in more imagination and build up from the ground to create anything (and I say this as a person who has done pretty much that with very minor characters to create whatever I want in a f/f ship).

Then in other settings; like an all female characters of lets say Magical girls anime - you're more likely to have femslash there because of actual characters to be inspired by and how relationship dynamics may inspire f/f in those settings.
Or even fully fleshed out characters in a show regardless of gender can inspire the audience.

Ultimately - before you can have the desired amount of f/f, you gotta have more of the media to inspire the fanworks in the first place.

There have been people in this very comm who've said that they view (or previously viewed) female characters as threats, silly though it may be.

It's nowhere near every woman or every slash fan, by any means, but that sort of person does demonstrably exist.

Re: What movies have you seen in an IMAX theater?

Much smaller, only about 30 seats. And you have to be 21+ to go in. They also serve alcohol and food to your seat. Tho, stupid Regal bought that theater chain (the warren) so they are not as good anymore. :/

What fanon changes that everyone seems to accept do you absolutely hate?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by the thread above it.

Mine is hate, hate, hating MTV Teen Wolf fandom's insistence & Jeff Davis' eventual canon confirmation of recovering alcoholic Sheriff Stilinski.

Also, kind of inspired by secret #2, some fans' characterizations of Juliet O'Hara as a hopeless romantic or the "sunshine."

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I will say - I wouldn't go so far as to use the word "threat" but I do get the insecurity to some degree. It's not about viewing the fictional characters as competition, it's that your mind can't help going to draw a comparison and say "Oh, I'm not like that, I don't have those attributes, I don't look like that, I would never be able to be in that situation", etc etc etc.

Aw. I'm sorry Regal bought the chain.

That sounds really lovely tho.

How AU are these? Could someone with know knowledge of MDZS get into them? I can always read the wiki if need be.

I saw Gravity in IMAX 3-D. It was awesome!

Also, I make it a point, when I visit any museums that have them, to watch a documentary in the original real IMAX format (the curved screen dome). I love feeling like I'm swooping around with the camera.

They were and their themed drinks were always great. They had one called The Winter Soldier that was delicious as fuck.

Re: All about AUs

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2024-03-27 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I love mob/mafia AUs. Especially the protective mob boss trope.

There are also a lot of fandoms where I only enjoy fic before certain events (The Walking Dead, MCU, Sherlock when I was into that).

ETA: Thought of another. Time loops but only when it is not comedy.

when the DA:O fandom decided Alistair was bi instead of hetero, lol. Which was a win for me bc one of my OTPs was (is tbh??? still love it but there's a dearth of it) alistair/zevran. :3
this was ten centuries ago though... idk what people think about it these days since there was that whole kerfuffle of de-gay-ifying one of the romanceable options in one of the later Dragon Ages.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it depends on how much you characterize yourself into these fictional ppl in the first place.

I don't think I've looked into many characters female or otherwise and compared myself to them (as a competition??). Emphasized with their situations yes, but comparisons nope.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That is bonkers to me. My homophobic dad would always go, "Hahah, he's probably gay." to any celeb I expressed interest in. I finally was just like, "SO the fuck what? I will never meet Tom Hardy."

I see people get this way when celebs get married. Were you really hoping to shoot your shot with Jensen Ackles?

I think what you said is true for some, but certainly not all female fans of slash. The other replies have given many examples of disagreeing. It comes across to me like an unfair generalization coming from your own perspective.

Personally I love slash as a guy because I like seeing guys do gay stuff, which... I have the impression is the reason many women like it too, lol.

SUGAR DADDY. Love it so much. And warlord. Wish those were both more popular.
