agree a trailer is not a spoiler, disagree that it's a necessary part of the movie or even expected information.

disagree about that chapter summaries and chapter titles aren't spoilers, but i can't tell if you mean that those things are part of the expected reading experience in which case, i don't think they're comparable to trailers.

I’ve learned not to read chapter titles. Even if they don’t spoil something major (and they often do), I found that I don’t enjoy reading as much when I know the main point of the current chapter.

i do think some of the fun can be in figuring out what the chapter title refers to, but yeah in really common genres, i can figure out the whole chapter from it. do you avoid fic titles too?

I don’t avoid fic titles but I also don’t pay much attention to them. Long plotty fics tend to have good titles like books; they give a sense of the story or mood, but don’t spoil anything. Smutty one shots under 5k words tend have titles that are basically a summary. And they’re spoilery I guess but it’s not like there is anything to spoil lol
