Re: How do you feel about ao3 authors sharing your comments?

Well, that's now one more thing I miss about the pre-AO3 era. The fact that it was less 'public' by comparison...
Of course its great for the many advantages as a reader. But as a writer, you're suppose to deal with the fact that you're just a content producer for people who 'don't owe you a comment' because fandom communities are becoming less of a thing and your work is apparently not yours any more so shut up and just give out the stories like a machine.

I'm a little confused by this comment and not sure what you're trying to say here in regards to sharing comments?

You don’t have to post your work to AO3 but you can. And AO3/OTW aren’t going to delete it on a whim without notice; in fact they have fought to ensure fanworks are allowed to continue existing.

I feel like a lot of fans have either forgotten about the hoops they had to jump through to post fic and how large swathes of fandom would disappear overnight. Or maybe they found fandom on LJ in communities that at most had a short moderation time for fic posting, or even after AO3 was established.

Methinks these are mostly young fans who have bought into respectability politics and purity culture and actively want to return to those days so they, main-stream sanitized lgbtq, can be superior to the dirty queers.

Yeah I know. AO3 just feels like a monkey paw situation to me - its the perfect platform for everything that I could want from fanfiction, but because its more public it comes under more scrutiny and TikTok hasn't helped with how they treat writers. At least back when I posted on LJ and ffnet, there were comments that made it feel more like a community. Now on a good day I'll get someone demanding more or wanting me to write a fic they can't be arsed to write.
But like you said, AO3 is better. Perhaps I should give up creating and just read.

Sounds like fandom doesn't bring you joy anymore. You don't need to post to enjoy writing. Worrying about how many comments you do or do not get is not going to make you happier.

Its not even about the amount of comments. I just miss the community circles since now fan writers are just expected to be content providers for people like yourself who thinks that we should be happy without any communication with fandom and just keep posting without complaint.

I told you to stop posting your writing online. That is the opposite of expecting you to post without feedback.

I write my own rare fic so *shrug*

I don't go into fandom with expectations

Anon above should look after their own mental health if they aren't happy right now with fandom

I, on the other hand, am a reader and care about WIPs being finished and about general hype levels in my fandoms.

I wouldn't qualify feeling upset by the lack of feedback a cause for concern. Being on fs is more of a concern hahaha.

Eh, caring about feedback is fine and normal. Thinking that you are a thankless machine that has to pump out content sounds like someone for whom fandom is dragging them down and for whom a break would be good for their mental health.

I'm with you on this. But many peeps on fs absolutely hate fic writers who openly care about feedback.
there was more collaborations and betaing going on.

I care about feedback, as a writer. But expecting a certain amount of feedback and getting upset when you don't get it is a fool's errand.

My certain amount of feed back is missing the fan community - I don't know how you got clout chaser out of that but I'm allowed to miss socializing in a fan community and be upset about being seen as a content provider who should never complain.
