I don't understand what your rationale for saying such a silly thing is.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-04 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I like how calm yet menacing this reply is.

Peak I'm Not Mad I'm Disapointed energy right here.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-04 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Understandable.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. Well, I don't know that I feel that strongly about it, but it's the last Bond film I enjoyed where I can remember the plot.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Is it that different from others?

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Considerably.

I will take you on your word. I thought it was pretty (Scotland!) and had some drama (good) but in the end it's basically like any other Bond movie for me

If anything, the only goid one was Casino Royale. Skyfall was better than the other sequels but still very silly

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like Casino Royale is a better movie but Skyfall is a better Bond movie, precisely because it has some of that old school campy flavor woven in.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, Bond movies are a spectrum. Casino Royale is shoved way to one end of that spectrum but it's still a Bond movie, just like From Russia With Love was. It's also one of the movies that's most faithful to the original books.

I'm treating "bond movie" as a cultural institution in its own right at this point more than anything that derives its quality from the books tbh

and you're right that it's a spectrum, but I feel like Skyfall is a little more comfortably closer to the middle of that spectrum. it's nowhere near as campy or light-hearted as even the brosnan movies, for example, but it's got a little more of that flair - you can really see in the different locations the way skyfall is an homage to different styles and eras of the bond franchise

casino royale is great for what it's trying to be, but I do get the feel sometimes that what it's trying to be is something more polished/realistic/respectable than a bond movie

anyway, I like them both, but I can see why OP would single out Skyfall only, if that was a quality that was important to them

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand why OP might not like Casino Royale as much but I don't agree that it isn't a Bond movie, basically.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Casino Royale will always be the better movie for the homoerotic ball torture scene alone.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Love this movie!

(Anonymous) 2024-04-05 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I absolutely love Skyfall! It’s one of my favorite movies of all time and I watch it often. But it’s very accurate when Bond fans say it isn’t a Bond movie. It’s nothing like any others and that’s not even touching on what’s good or bad. It’s my favorite James Bond movie but that’s because it isn’t really a James Bond movie.
