Because my goal isn't to make them feel bad. I want them to stop being antis. They'll dig in deeper if they think they're under attack. Purity culture gets people by making them think their own morals rely on the morals of their environment, so by attacking their purity culture bullshit they feel like we're attacking their identity. It's insidious and I'm tired.

In cases like this, I don't worry about the entity I'm engaging with so much as I aim to have people reading the exchange take a moment to assess their stances.

Yeah, I think the best way to teach them is to just shut down any anti shit in spaces you mod and ignore it everywhere else. If you can't stop spouting purity bullshit where it's not wanted you're not mature enough to say anything interesting.

Exactly. And if you can ban them, do so. Getting the banhammer a time or two for breaking the rules or just generally acting like an ass worked wonders on the smarter kids back in the day.
