Re: Piercings

My mom had my ears pierced when I was three or four. I still remember it, all these decades later, because I had no idea what was going on, then everything hurt and I was crying, and my mom said I could get any balloon I wanted. Tearfully I pointed at the unicorn balloon, the only one I wanted out of the offered selection. They were out.

I've since let my piercing heal. I can't be bothered with jewelry.

Oh, that's hard. They couldv'e let you have the balloon on show, instead of sending you away without one. :-[ Also, judging your mother for having holes bored in her tiny daughter just for show.

Yeah, it was the 80s, so it was the Done Thing. Luckily, the ideas "my mom was a great mom and did her best" AND "she did things that probably traumatized me" are things that can and do co-exist. I did get a balloon, just not the one I wanted and that was the worst of it; it felt unjust to not get the unicorn balloon. I probably wouldn't have remembered it at all if they had it. Strange the things that stick with you for years and years.

My colleagues were talking how they got their daughters ears pierced at around 1. Because "if they are older they (children) would make a fight". I am still enraged frankly. So much fucking gender shit. Also "she doesn't wear nice golden earrings, she likes flower design". YOUR DAUGHTER IS FOUR OF COURSE SHE LIKES FLOWERS AND NOT GOLDEN WITH DIAMOND FUCKING EARRINGS WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU. *breaths out*

I was also born in 80s but haven't got my ears pierced till 10 or 11 years. Mostly because I really loved my grandmother's earrings :'D
