No but with celebs, it's targeted at people who chose to be in the spotlight. Not that this makes it okay and it absolutely sucks, not victim blaming here. But a certain amount of this behaviour is to be expected when you choose a career in showbiz. The family's of murder victims get forced into this spotlight against their will and through tragic circumstances. It's not at all the same.

DA

It is the same. These two scenarios both stem from the same source: crazy fans. Crazy fans of a person will stalk that person/thing. Doesn't matter if that person is a celebrity who could reasonably have known this could happen, or is just someone doing their job (e.g. RPF hockey). Just so happens with true crime it's far, far more of the latter.

How incredibly gross it is to be a 'fan' of someone's murder. Goddamn.

There are lots of fandoms that I consider completely despicable or gross. Not gonna say they're not fandoms, tho.

Right but this is exactly my point - the difference between true crime fandoms and other fandoms is not that true crime fandoms have crazy fans. The difference between true crime fandoms and other fandoms is that some people think true crime fandom is intrinsically gross.
