but...it is? at least, it's not built to discourage them.

in the taskbar for filtering searches, you can literally toggle include/exclude crossovers. you can add "crossover" as a tag to your search. I dislike them so I always exclude them but you can find them pretty easily even without having a specific canon/canon itch to add to your tag search. I honestly wish I could do more than just "exclude crossovers" because I dislike them so much and yet they're always popping up in my regular searches.

You know what, this is what I get for not over-elaborating on how I would like to see a listing of ALL the crossovers on AO3 the same way FFnet had for their crossover section.

I would actually like to see all the listing of fandoms by titles on AO3 instead of going through pages of random fics under the crossover label (and to be able to pick out specific fandoms instead of only being able to choose from the 5 most popular fandoms that get listed in the search feature).

Actually - do the AO3 team take suggestions like this or would it be something that would fuck over the site too much for it to be worth something so specific?

and to be able to pick out specific fandoms instead of only being able to choose from the 5 most popular fandoms that get listed in the search feature

You can do this, you just type the fandom name in and select it.

Over the top explanation time:

AO3 is GREAT when you want a specific fandom and to find ANOTHER specific fandom to see if TWO OR MORE other fandoms have been written about.

Example for AO3- I am looking through Avengers fics. There is no way to know What fandom's have been written unless they are the top 5 most popular fandoms LISTED IN THE SEARCH BOX; which means anything less popular than those fandoms are NOT listed.
I can exclude or only include crossovers, which is great if I want to read every crossover ever written about on AO3 and can exclude the specific ones I don't want to read. I love this function.
But if I'm in a fandom that uses multiple crossovers that are connected with a certain fandom, i would have to go through every combination of crossovers since there is no 'can include but doesn't have to' option
Like: I would like to read any Avengers crossovers with LOTRs OR X-men. The choices are to either seek specifically Avengers + LOTRs or fics that consist of all three fandom's. It can be done be its extra steps and extra typing which is great if you enjoy doing that.

FFnet: is a dogshit site for fanfiction. Gotta put that there in case someone on here intentionally misunderstands that liking ONE particular function does not mean that I think FFnet is better than AO3.

Anyways - FFnet has a section dedicated to crossovers. I click on it an go to the Avengers fandom. Instead of needing to have a fandom in mind (which is great on AO3 when you specifically want a specific fandom), I see a list of EVERY fandom that has ever been crossed over instead of just the most popular five or having to wade through all the fanfics with 50+ fandom's, long summaries, long list of tags and click through every page instead of just seeing the listed fandom's on one page.
I can find fandom's I never thought to look up. I can be surprised or amused at the random crossovers like the one fic crossing the care bears over with Lord of the Rings.
I use to check the crossover section on FFnet and therefore use to read more crossovers.
AO3 is a fantastic site for fanfics with hardly any flaws or problems with their very excellent search function. I also don't read as much crossovers unless I just happen to stumble on a fic or have to go out my way to write all the fandom's that I would like to see.

Admittedly this us such a tiny problem that isn't really a problem - just a 'huh I use to read more crossovers because of the FFnet layout that AO3 doesn't have' and if you fandom is small enough on AO3 it probably is very easy to find crossovers on there.
I just made a comment that I didn't think to add a long explanation to while forgetting that its wrong to say anything considered bad about AO3 on here, even if its just to point out that it doesn't have a crossover section like FFnet does.

It's too much work to go to Avengers and try LOTR and then do another search for X-Men? Okay then! That really is a tiny problem!

NAYRT

I think you're missing the point. You can of course manually search for any fandom you can think of, but first you have to think of it. I don't think any of us have a complete enough mental catalogue of everysingle thing we've ever enjoyed to manually search for each one in succession.

If you've only ever seen Avengers, LOTR and X-Men, cool. You'll probably remember to search for all of those. But odds are you've liked more things in your lifetime than you can reliably list off the top of your head, and some of those are obscure enough that you don't think about them in the context of fandom. There could be a fantastic crossover somewhere on AO3 between some megafandom you're currently in and a movie you watched obsessively when you were 13, but you'll never search for it directly.

This is exactly what I meant, thank you.

I have wondered about sending a message to the AO3 team to ask if they would ever consider putting in an option to see listings of crossovers. I wouldn't be surprised if they said no since its probably a lot of work for something that's possibly not in that much demand, but I'm half curious to see if anything would come of it.

Thank you for missing the point.

I never thought that wanting to see all the crossovers listed in the same way that fandoms are listed on AO3 (for example: Click on Anime fandom -> you can see the list of different anime series in alphabetical order AND the amount of fics written for each specific fandom), would be such a controversial opinion.

The problem with finding crossovers is that in fandoms like the Untamed author's tag Untamed TV with Untamed novels so it's not actually a crossover. You can exclude non crossovers but in fandoms like Untamed, DCU, Marvel it's incredibly difficult to find actual two different fandom crossovers. Mostly because of the sheer volume of works in these fandoms.
