"Because why make an effort for no reward?"

... because I had an idea for a thing that I really wanted to make reality? Seriously, when did fandom become all about how much attention you get instead of "I want to make this thing and so I will post the thing so that other people can also enjoy it if they want"?

So you get no comments and no kudos. Are you going to keep taking the time out of your day to post? What if Fandom A gives you lots of kudos and comments and Fandom B not so many. What fandom will you write for?

DA.

I can’t speak for anon above but for me yes. Fandom feedback makes no difference in what fandom I’ll write for, I just get inspired and go, so when that inspiration ends I stop writing fic. Attention from other people doesn’t affect my output for a fandom.

So I get inspired and drop a fic out because someone else might like it, who knows.

Exactly this. I write the things I want to write. If other people like it, great. If not, it doesn't matter because I wasn't writing it for them.

DA. Art, not fic, but 99.9% of what I've drawn (and finished, not just random doodles), does not make it online. I don't really tag, and thus rarely get -views-, much less comments.

If you rely on external validation to create, it will never be enough. It will never be kind enough, or supportive enough, or understanding enough, or enthusiastic enough.

And the audience is there to be entertained. Not kiss ass.

DA

I do art to get the idea out of my head. I've had stuff be hits, and stuff that got nothing. Don't care. It's out of my head now, not my problem anymore.
