+1

Someone created a Goodreads entry for one of my fanfics, and it's currently sitting on the site with a 2.67 star rating. None of the users starring it wrote a text review either, so it's not as though I'm able to glean any substance from that rating other than "generally unpopular".

And the thing is, I don't think the fic is all that. It's a tropey romance short story for a popular ship, which has led to it being my most kudosed/viewed/bookmarked work, but it's not even my best fanfic. I just had a fun fic idea and wanted to entertain people a little, and based on my AO3 stats, I did a decent job of that. Whereas based on my Goodreads stats, I maybe shouldn't have bothered to post the fic at all.

I've got sufficient perspective on the situation that I'm not devastated or anything--I do trust that the readers who kudosed and bookmarked and commented on the fic on AO3 genuinely enjoyed it, and it's obviously also fine if some readers didn't enjoy it. But nevertheless, if I'd had the option, I would've preferred that any fic reactions (positive or negative) remain in fannish spaces.

Gross and bad, no thank you. If I found out a friend had done that with a fic I would be giving them *such* a side-eye.

I'm sorry there was such rudeness sent your way.
