...I was actually trying to avoid saying anything on this subject, but you actually brought up something I really have to agree with you on.

I mean, it may have to do with the fact that I'm straight, but I've had SO many comments of "you're too tolerant, you have to be bi" or "everyone's really bisexual" that I see the same thing from homosexuals trying to "turn" (for the lack of a better word, and it sounds so... mean ;-; ) people who are straight to "discovering" they're gay... I mean, isn't that something for them to decide?

I remember when I was in highschool, almost every friend I had (except two) were trying to convince me that I just had to "find myself". It always bugged me because they were practically badgering me (not to say that all gays/bisexuals do, just these from my old school in particular). I finally just had to completely stop eating in public, participating in the activities I really loved doing, and just become almost completely anti-social to avoid them.

Granted, five years later, I have concluded that I'm bisexual, but that hasn't changed anything about me. I still act the same towards people as I always have, I still have the same beliefs I always have. I'm very happy with the person I am, all the faults and everything.

I really don't understand the "CONVERT, CONVERT, BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE" culture that there seems to be...

I just...don't...understand it at all...

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly!! Its so...peculiar!! Why does the way someone acts affect their sexuality? O_o

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Word to that.

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-07 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't either.

Not saying this specifically implies to the subject matter at hand, but just something I've always noticed:

If you're different, society either wants you to convert, or doesn't want you at all. Meh.

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and if you go to another cultural group, its the exact same thing! Its so weird!!!

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
People are just...guh. I can be as social as I want with people, but there's a point when I just get, "....Okay, you go stand on THAT SIDE of the world. I'll pretend I didn't just hear you say something like that."

Which..sadly, happens a lot. I hate living in the Bible belt. If it's not gays/bisexuals they're shooting eye-daggers at, it's the incredibly morbid people like myself. I can't even read Dracula in public because, apparently, it'll make me "weird" (even my own mother says I'm weird for it). Just .....GAH I HATE PEOPLE DX

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, Bible Belt too? The worst part of America, I swear. Gorgeous scenery, but if I were to leave, I wouldn't be upset in the least.

I really do hate the way people are categorized...I mean...as a PoliSci major, I would love to read things like Mein Kampf and other famous works that would most likely get me put on some government list or something...not to mention the way that everyone I know would disown me and flay me alive or something grotesque like that...

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've always been interested in reading Mein Kampf but..yeah, I think you can understand why I haven't yet. >_>; I think if I moved anywhere, I'd want to move either up north, or further south in a different state. While I'm sure the north has their fair share of stereotypes that I really know nothing about, the south is just.. the epitome of rednecks/homophobes/etc. I'm not saying everyone down here is like that, but just all the people I see and meet aren't disproving that. I'll openly admit I do place people into stereotypes if I don't know them well. It's just the beauty of America that gives us the freedom to prejudge people as much as we want. That same freedom that lets us be mad at the ones who prejudge.

I'm sorry, I'm just so happy to actually be having an intelligent conversation about this with someone, my thoughts aren't even in the slightest coherent. |D

I guess what I'm trying to say is I've got no problem letting people do whatever the fuck they want, no matter what part of the country they're in.

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I know, its shocking, isn't it? The internet breeds such...idiocy and intelligence all at the exact same time. ._.

But man, I know what you mean. When I was in high school, I did a military parade for marching band, and one of those "God Hates Fags" guys was protesting at the parade, and it was so disgusting and mean, and it made me want to cry, and the first thing I heard from another band member was "God those fags should rot in hell" or something of the like, and the epitome is spread so thoroughly here its no wonder that half the world thinks of this area as a bunch of inbred Hillbillies.

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I know I should be but...I'm really not all that surprised. XD; They'll let anyone onto the interwebs these days. >:[

.....I know it might not be something you want to hear, but I'm so sorry for that. I mean, seriously, wtf. People really should learn to keep their mouths shut sometimes with their opinions. (HAHAAA, hypocricy.) but that just...I don't even know the right words to say. I mean, I was in highschool theatre, for Chrissakes. It was like..the exact opposite. I remember when one of our guys tried out for cheerleader, GOT IT, then dropped out a month later because of all the people treating him like shit for it. I felt so horrible because he really was happy about being there and just afljdslfj

You have no idea how badly I want to friend you right now just from this conversation ♥

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
xDD Oh man, you should see 4chan? :)

♥ its alright...It was...god, 2...3 years ago? xD I mean, people have a right to their opinions, and I think expressing those opinions is important, because through communication, people discover things about themselves and grow...but the guy was like "Military fags rot in hell" and things like that, and it was so...uncouth for a parade celebrating the military... It was awful. ._. ♥ That happened to a friend of mine who is gay; he wanted to try out for our Colour Guard so terribly, and he was killer with a rifle, but never did because of the way people handled homosexuals at our school. I hate that people either choose to, or are forced to deny parts of themselves, or change themselves because of society... (as emoanti-corporationasthatsounded)

...Is it bad that I feel the same way? ♥

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I live on 4chan. /b/tard, baby ;D LOLZ I USUALLY TRY TO NOT LET ON THAT I LOVE /B/ BECAUSE OF WHAT PEOPLE WOULD THINK.

People just suck most of the time, man. I think that's all it boils down to. Other times, they blow ;D

....Not at all. ♥

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh Man FTW. XD Everyone hates you the moment they find out that you like /B/, but its just so hilarious sometimes! Especially with how retarded people are! XD

Oh yeah, I know...and I hate to say that, because I hate to be judgmental, but people can be so...terribly mean and kind at the same time... there are so many contradictions its not even funny! ;-;

♥ Good to know! ;)

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I guess people only see /b/tards, you're automatically a dick or something? XD I DON'T KNOW. I find out someone's a /b/tard, my first thought is, "OH MAN DO YOU REMEMBER THIS ONE TIME?" I love watching people react to things.

I honestly don't think anyone can help being judgemental to a certain degree. It's just human nature, just like it's human nature to be selfish, or to want to know people are actually listening to you. Nothing to feel bad about.

...Uh oh. I sense possible friending in the future. ;) ♥

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, exactly! It can be so funny when taken with a good grain of salt!

*nods* It is! Kind of like alot of reactions to this post, where alot of people were either like "OH NOES" and other people were like "I can kind of agree with this"...and how this whole thing has resulted in a breaking-down of perceptions and the like; No matter what, judging happens to lead a lot of how we interact, especially when approaching potential friends/lovers/etc. Its so...frustrating, and fascinating at once.

...OH NOES MY SPIDEY SENSE IS TINGLING. ♥

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
....I hate to sound so...(looking for the right word, but not finding it) egotistical about this, but one of my favourite things to do is just go somewhere really public (like a mall or something), sit down, and just watch people. Humans are, by far, some of the most interesting things to watch when they don't realize they're being watched. And I know people probably do the same to me when I don't know it, and that's perfectly fine. Some of the most interesting things to watch is when they're in a crisis, or having an argument or something of the like and just listening to them defend their opinions/themselves, or trying to.

I dunno, I'm just an outsider giving my personal opinion~ u_u

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all, really. I mean, I study Political Science, its my business to figure out why people do what they do, what it means, the motivations, everything like that...its so fascinating! Arguments are fascinating, relationships are fascinating...everything interests me...but...that's probably not at good thing. XD

♥ Well, I am too, essentially. :)

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, if it's something that interests you and keeps you from world descruction or something, then I say it's a good thing. ♥

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
LOL In Highschool I was always the "Dictator"...then they found out I was going to be studying political science and realized it could be true. ♥ except not, since...I'm not dictator-ly? :D

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
In highschool, I was..I don't really know what I was XD; A lot of people ended up coming to me when they needed an ear to listen to, or when they needed help on English assignments. Other than that, I usually just kept to myself. ♥

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I was kind of a little bit of everything... XD I did like...50,000 things and was the general go-to girl for getting things done. ._. I get it from my mom.
