Yeah, and there was no point in history where you could express opinions about music in public and not have other people argue about it with you in some way and tell you how that band sucks or another is better.

"I wish I could say my opinion and nobody else could give me theirs back" is a different and more childish wish than "I wish I could simply listen to music in peace."

My friend. If, back in the seventies, I had a magic way of finding out which of my favorite punk bands were actually neonazi stompers, I would totally have googled their shit before buying their records or going to their gigs. The only reason you think people didn't care about a band's politics back then, was because we had to wait until they went mask off in a way that went massively public.

And I assure you, when they did, people still cared and still stopped going to gigs and paying for albums. It just took longer to find out is all.

I'm a norse pagan and you have to keep your head on a swivel to make sure people you associate with aren't...questionable. This has been the case for a long time.

Wait, you aren't worried about whether Heilung condemns Nazis and assorted racists, are you? Because they definitely have. They've explicitly said that their music is inclusive, and that anyone who thinks it's only for white people is not welcome at their shows.

When they played Red Rocks they had groups of local indigenous people come out to cleanse the stage.
