Man, do I miss the days when music was something you could listen to without having to do a week-long social media deep-dive to make sure every member of the band is morally and politically above board.

Meh, I'm tired of overdramatic people acting like someone is stopping them from doing that today.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-18 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing you haven't been on literally any social or communal website in a while.

lol.

"b-b-but if I post about some controversial band then people will be mad at me!"

Yeah, and there was no point in history where you could express opinions about music in public and not have other people argue about it with you in some way and tell you how that band sucks or another is better.

"I wish I could say my opinion and nobody else could give me theirs back" is a different and more childish wish than "I wish I could simply listen to music in peace."

You can still do that.

Are you only able to listen to music you like on a public forum while other people watch and comment?

(Anonymous) 2024-04-18 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I’ll probably get dogpiled for this but: it still is.

Nah fam, turns out literally any social and communal website is stalking AYRT's private playlist and music purchases.

Literally nothing is stopping you from doing this. You know who knows what I listen to on my spotify? Me and Mr. Spotify. That's it.

There have been musicians in every era with shitty views. It's just easier to discover what those views are now. (I'm not saying shitty views are cool, I'm just saying it's not new.)

My friend. If, back in the seventies, I had a magic way of finding out which of my favorite punk bands were actually neonazi stompers, I would totally have googled their shit before buying their records or going to their gigs. The only reason you think people didn't care about a band's politics back then, was because we had to wait until they went mask off in a way that went massively public.

And I assure you, when they did, people still cared and still stopped going to gigs and paying for albums. It just took longer to find out is all.
