What is the latest trend in your current fandom?

So, not a general fandom trend per say. But in the Tolkien fandom, overall takes on the Melkor/Sauron ship tend to swing back and forth from super abusive all the way to super fluffy. I tend to be in the evil villains but also love each other camp.

Right now, I think mainly due to that one line in Rings of Power, the more abusive side seems to be more dominant. Which I'm not a fan of at all. I hope things swing back towards the middle soon.

Also, Galadriel/Sauron has become popular. Which amuses me as I used to crack-ship it. I don't ship it in Rings of Power, though. And I find many of the current takes are so generic het, which just robs all the interest out of the ship for me.

Honestly, I just really am not a fan of generic het. It is what ruined the Rey/Kylo ship for me as well. I was into the ship for a while. Still kind of ship it. But for me the dynamic would be where she's very much the lead. And I found I didn't like most of the takes on the characters in the fics I was reading. And was just really bored. So I don't read the ship anymore.

Honestly, I mostly just don't like dynamics that feel OOC to me. IC can make even tropes I usually hate work for me. But if it feels OOC, I'm out of there.

This question makes me realize how out of touch with fandom I am these days.

Maybe the Danny Phantom/DC fics I keep seeing count?

AYRT - so many secrets make me feel this way, which was kind of why I asked. I feel like I am so out of touch since I left tumblr and never found another central fandom space.

I've been enjoying the 'put Foghorn Leghorn into an anime' meme that's been going around Twitter lately, if that counts.

That is hilarious

What are your favorite death scenes?

(Anonymous) 2024-04-26 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
We always talk about ones we hate. What are your favorites? Either for people you wanted dead OR ones that were done well (even if they made you sad).

Paul Reubens in Buffy is top tier death scene.

For SURE my number one favorite!

I liked a couple of the deaths in Hotel Artemis a lot-- Acapulco's was funny, if not on Amilyn's level of funny death scene (at least, it struck me that way). The Wolf King's was... weirdly hot?

It's hard to think of one I loved because of how well-deserved AND well-executed it was... like, watching Stranger Things I was just WAITING for Billy to die but when he finally did, I was so turned off by the attempt at redemption by death that I didn't even enjoy it. Darth Maul, maybe-- for all that the Phantom Menace may not be the best Star Wars movie, as a kid watching it in the theater I did love it.

Joffrey's on GoT was great. I think I liked Ramsey's better because Sansa got him good.

I also thought Lady Olenna's fuck you death was perfect. Tommen's was brutally short but I thought it fit the ending.

Vegeta's sacrifice against Buu fucked me up as a kid. I was inconsolable. But it was so heroic. ;_;

Spike on Cowboy Bebop might have had the most cinematic and emotional I've seen in anime.

Shoutout to the horse in The Cell. Also bless the many creative deaths in Dead Space and Dark Souls. Baldur's Gate 3 has some entertaining ones too particularly on Honour mode. Makes dying ~*~fun~*~.

I loved the death scenes in Ghost Ship. I am not a gore or horror fan normally but that one got me. So good.

Obviously he doesn't really die, but The Master in The Last of the Time Lords.

Also arguably not a permanent death: River Song in Forest of the Dead.

I love me a good Death Speech, and both of them had that.

I think 10th Doctor is overrated, but he sure is good at making sad faces!

Bound (1996)

- badass line by one of the protagonists
- satisfying death of a hate-able antagonist
- pretty cinematography of the blood

(Also, I can’t not recommend this as a lesbian/sapphic neo-noir.)

Fuck yeah, sapphic neo-noir!

1. Boromir.
2. Vader
3. Mufasa
4. Spock in Wrath of Khan
5. Theoden
6. Joyce from season 5 of Buffy
7. Angel in season 2 of Buffy
8. Mark on ER
9. Wash on Serenity
10. Tony and Natasha in Endgame. Tied because both are equally powerful to me.

For book-only scenes, so many in the Silmarillion: Celebrimbor, Finrod, Fingon, Beren, Fingolfin, Hurin (way more interesting than his son).

Derek Reese on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The abruptness of it and the lack of time we (and the characters) are allowed to spend registering it has made it stick in my memory since 2007.

Keith Windham in "The Flight of the Heron", by DK Broster. It's desperately sad, but he dies in the arms of his best friend, who stays with him toi the end despite the risk of being captired.

If you read the novel, which is here: https://www.fadedpage.com/showbook.php?pid=20200150 and want fic, it's listed under "Jacobite Trilogy", to make it difficult to find.

A bunch from the Final Destination franchise are interesting and/or shocking. The premonition scenes are always pretty elaborate, but the logging truck was probably my favorite. For the actual deaths, the tanning bed scene sticks with me, and I find the one with the pigeons bizarrely amusing.

Will Gardner on The Good Wife was shock-inducing, so unexpected, but it still felt realistic, well-acted and then the reactions.

So another day in searching for job quest. I am having really bad anxiety day. I had to ride over a big bridge but took a longer road around because yeah, too scared. So was a bit disappointed in myself. And apparently I had to take an elevator to the needed floor... and I couldn't do it I was scared shitless. So I had to ring them up and ask if they can open a door I can go to by stairs. I am a bit proud of myself for that, I was so tempted to run.
I don't think they are going to hire me. I mean, the whole elevator thing and also I was passionatly against LLMs ahahha.
So yeah, another day, another fail I guess

Dragging my feet on quitting a group where it took a long time for me to admit it was full of folks who possibly aren't good for me and who I possibly do not want in my life. I feel like such an asshole after so many years. Like why can't I just be *cool* and *want* to hang around? Which is ridiculous because people are allowed to change interests and friends, but when it comes to me, somehow it's completely unforgivable. And arrogant thinking, as though I have tons of connections (I don't) and can afford to just lose friends like it's nothing (also ridiculous, I mean, I don't really have any friends but to be fair I'm alone most of the time so it wouldn't be much of a change).

I just want to make room for better people, people I can be myself around, who aren't gossipy drama queens that lack self-awareness and never care about their role in a bad situation that they, for some reason, just keep finding themselves in. I wish I were wise enough and mature enough to recognize good compatible people and maintain those friendships. But it always seems like when I find a group, there's one or two awful or abrasive people that I don't understand why the other folks are hanging around. But I can't ask them to leave so the only choice is to find another group. (I also fear being that abrasive asshole people are leaving over too.)

Ugh why do I get sick/nauseous when I've got plans to hang out with my friends??

Last week I woke up nauseous and was sick a couple times in the bathroom. Took some medication and as the day went on I began to feel better.

Now, yesterday I felt congestion building in my nose and throat. Took some zinc chews, got a lot of sleep, but still feeling a bit icky.
Eating 2/3 of a bowl of oatmeal so far with hot water is helping my tummy, feeling a little less nauseous.
But God damn, last week the illness didn't stop me from going out with my friends, this week won't either!

Gonna go buy a couple packs of Cold-eeze and suck on them until this icky congestion passes. I hate navigating eating food and drinking liquids before/after consuming zinc, it can upset my stomach or leave mouth feeling gross.

I want to respond to every single post! INKITT will not save you, you're only resetting the clock! The only hope is to go somewhere that *wants* your fic, not just your ad impressions. Don't you see?!? Please God put your stuff on Ao3, I might want to read it some day!

But I don't because I'm too cowardly to get into potential arguments with strangers on the internet today.
