Ah, okay. It really depends on what part of the fandom you are talking about. On Tumblr, nothing is controversial in the Tolkien fandom. In some of the places where they don't ship at all and just do serious stuff, anything villain, related, or even m/m is probably controversial. Heck, I've heard places where shipping characters who are married with others is controversial.
