I don't know about you, but I also get grumpy and irritated about annoying tasks that I have to do. I do them and I do them well, but I sometimes complain to others about them even while I'm doing them. For something in entertainment, I wouldn't be surprised if vinegar sometimes gets more eyes on it than honey. I think people should be polite, but I don't think they should have to pretend they're enjoying something if they don't want to.

You're not wrong, but also, I don't think most people's brains really work this way. I feel like we're kind of hardwired to take for granted what we have (like a fat paycheck), while the urge to avoid things we don't like/enjoy remains pretty much just as strong, even when rationally we should be clicking our heels at our privilege.

To be clear, I say this as someone who makes minimum wage.

I don't really blame you for finding it annoying when rich people complain about the parts of their jobs they dislike most. But I guess I just kind of see it as a natural human impulse. A short-sighted, self-involved impulse, sure, but if I had their job I might not be any different.

If you're annoyed hearing celebrities complain about promotional shit, I hear that. And I agree to an extent - assuming they signed up for that and knew exactly what they were signing up for. Do your damn job and complain in private to your therapist and all that.

But it has nothing to do with people who have regular jobs. It's not directed at them, and won't have any effect on them or the paychecks they receive.

Should celebs be considerate of folks who don't get paid as handsomely? Well, I guess? It'd be nice. But that isn't the problem here.

I feel like the Dewey decimal system actually works against me. When I look for sci-fi books at the library, I can be surprised by whatever subgenre I happen to stumble across. Nonfiction categories are so fine-grained that I’m not sure where to start.

Considering how vast and varied non-fiction books are by comparison to the genres of fantasy & sci-fi - I would argue that it already does with books like biographies of celebrities and politicians.

Reality will never win out over fantasy when it comes to peoples fantasy escapism fanishness. Plus there is the whole RPF thing.

I feel like people get super obsessed in a fandom kind of way with books about cults, hollywood drama biographies, amd murders - especially unsolved murders.

In what type of way? I like both types of books (prefer nonfiction these days, but will always love scifi) and I think of them as hyped up by different groups and in different contexts usually, even when people enjoy both? I do see a lot of hype for nonfiction books when I'm in a community related to that subject, like history books have plenty of fans.
