At what point does little sleep become dangerous

(Anonymous) 2024-05-09 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
2 hours last night, 3 the night before, 3-4 the night before that. Nothing so far tonight. massive migraine. But keep having panic attacks every time I try to fall asleep.

Honestly, if you have an alternative to driving yourself in a car, I would urge you to take advantage of that.

There’s some reasonable research to support that this level of sleep deprivation is similar to driving while drunk.

I’m so very sorry if you don’t have a reasonable alternative and depend on driving your car to keep your job. Personally, I wouldn’t blame you for driving anyway, doing your best to give extra attention (note: not factored into the studies). But I thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks. Boss told me to stay home, so no driving.

That does seem like a reason to seek medical expertise. I get that panic attacks are not necessarily susceptible to breathing routines or other mindfulness exercises. Have you tried anti-anxiety meds? Lots of people seem to have had success with them by reporting awful insomnia and panic attacks. (Though this is definitely affected by how your providers “tag” you.)

Well i've been sleeping less than 6 hours since 2012 and less than 4 since 2020. In theory you can keep going, but its definitely not healthy. If you can you should definitely go see a doctor if it keeps interfering with your day to day life.

Yeah, it seems like a dangerous amount at this point.
Can you take at least naps through the day? Like parents of small children
