There is nothing wrong! While shipping, it could be an AU, or maybe you could interpret him as someone who is Ace but still sexually active.

I like this ship too and I usually imagine it as some kind of AU to some degree
Or just Alastor isn't sex repulsed or anything

TBH considering when he's from I HC that he had flings with women in the 20s and such According to Viv and some of the folks He sees himself as a "straight man who hasn't met the right woman yet (to settle down with)" and I could see him opening up to other options with time and consideration

But being in a relationship wouldn't make him not asexual If anything he could have a relationship with someone (like Lucifer) that isn't in his normal range because of it

So like, sorry, this might be kinda tangential to your secret but it does feel really weird that the character who is VERY OBVIOUSLY made to be like, the platonic ideal of a tumblr sexyman is the character they decided to make aroace. Like they were very much trying to make tumblr girls horny for the deer man, they definitely knew people were gonna ship him with everything he interacts with, why not make ANY OTHER character be aroace and him bi? That seems like it'd work better with what they're obviously going for. I am genuinely confused about this.

Huhhhh, I mean, sexual orientation is something a person experiences internally, and it's not like he's a real person I would ever get together with, so... I could find him equally hot whether he's bi, gay, ace or straight? Well, he's not my type, but with other characters I've crushed on, it's not like they have to be potentially in my dating pool for me to enjoy the character? Why would him being bi make him more popular or more lusted after, lol?

I think AYRT is questioning why the creator chose to make the character who is the most potent shipping bait the ace one. Like, why didn't they make any of the other characters the ace one, why was it the one who is obviously going to be everyone's favorite blorbo/meow meow/bicycle.

I don't personally have an opinion on this. I don't really care that they made Mr. meow meow sexyman the ace one. But I can see where AYRT is coming from with this.

Maybe she did it to encourage fandom to get over it and ship aroace characters if they want to because there's no law against it.

Okay, I doubt that's why, but it'd be nice if that was the result.

I find it amusing. It also seems to be a reverse psychology thing since Alastor is easily the most sexualized and shipped character in the fandom. The ace aspect gives him a "forbidden fruit" appeal.

They're fictional characters, you're not hurting anyone by liking their dynamic and having fun with the ship. Especially as an ace yourself. It's okay to relate to the canon depiction while also liking to imagine alternate shipping scenarios. I don't personally find shipping a character outside of their canon orientation to be inherently offensive (yes, including lesbians with guys and gay guys with women). It can be done in a disrespectful and meanspirited way intended to troll queer fans of the character, but if the person writing it is approaching it genuinely (just likes the ship, thinks it's interesting, thinks it would be OOC but totally hot... W/E) I don't see it as strange at all.

I'm aroace and I could have written this secret myself.

The worst part, for me, is that strong mutual sexual attraction is an absolute must for me with my ships.

I keep seeing people say, "Alastor can do and enjoy x/y/z and still be ace though," which is extremely true and valid. But the gremlin in my head needs them hot and bothered for each other. It just does.

Alastor can still be demi. So in that respect, it's possible to have an Alastor who is sexually attracted to Lucifer and still on the ace spectrum.

But to be honest, I'm kind of more interested in him having always been too much of a distrustful, Machiavellian control-freak to have any interest in sex/romance.

Plus, I kind of like the idea that the animosity between them was, in part, UST from the beginning. Not as though they never really hated each other—they definitely DO...but maybe some of why they hate each other so much, right out of the gate, is because neither of them knows how to deal with feelings of attraction in a way that is remotely well-adjusted or normal.

So yeah. Here I am, an ace/aro person, wishing there were more fics that just ignored the canon asexuality of one of only a tiny handful of ace characters in mainstream media. *facepalm*

As a fellow aroace person, I just want to say I'm in the same boat as you! Agreed 100%.

As an aside, I don't think that our enjoyment of things precludes us from fictive fantasy like anyone else. We don't need to be ambassadors in fandom.
