It doesn't really matter if it *feels* like it wasn't that long ago; it's *over a generation* ago. Someone born in 1996 is at the tail end of the Millennial generation. Gen Z, the subsequent generation, is now in the workforce, and current children are considered to be part of a different cohort from them.

I'm sure that, to someone who's 70, 1969 feels like it was just yesterday. It doesn't mean that it really was just yesterday, or that we should measure time by their subjective POV.
