I love the Sandman and first read it decades ago, but I'm so glad the show didn't try for darker and grittier than the comics because I would've had to nope out.

I've been lucky to not run into many fans who really missed the person turned into an eldritch slime monster and laminated over the walls, or the girl sneaking in to a morgue to fuck a corpse, or...

Anyway dark, gritty, edgy stuff mostly bores me and I know it's a cliche but if I want to despair for humanity I'll read the news.

Same. I do like comic Sandman and I enjoyed it's edginess as a young adult. But I am happy with a show and I don't find violence shocking or interesting
