That last sentence is a bold one to throw out there! I know some 911 fans that would froth at the mouth reading that.

Agreed. I really don't want Buddie to become canon, mainly because of the rabid fans. Their behaviour shouldn't be rewarded by the writers.

Is this what the Supernatural fandom was like a few years ago?

It's not about the "fans being rewarded". The showrunner/writers have made it clear that they're going to do what they feel like is best/makes most sense for the story, regardless of any outside influences. Whether or not that means Buck and Eddie getting together, I don't know, but some fans being annoying is a dumb reason not to do it if that's the storyline they want to tell.

They’ve been harassing writers and actors on the show for years, this is more than enough reason to never make their entitled bullshit canon. And if I was a show runner I wouldn’t.

Eh, I think being contrary and not doing something just because some fans are annoying is a pretty dumb move as a creator.

I think it's a pretty human response actually, if someone is being unreasonably rude to you or a friend you are under no obligation to ever do what that person wants. It's like being rude to a retail worker: they're not going to help you at all if you're rude to their face and I wouldn't ever fault them for that, they're not paid enough to put up with that kind of bullshit. And the same applies to TV shows: no creator is obligated to play nice with the people actively making the lives of their co-workers much more difficult and presuming otherwise is ascribing a bizarre level of forced grace onto a stranger.

It's pure entitlement to demand that writers cater to a specific subgroup in regards to the narrative of a show, and I don't think anyone behaving that way should ever be rewarded for their bullshit.

NAYRT

I get that, but if it's the story they want to tell then it's not about "rewarding" the badly behaving fans.

If all writers did that, no ship would ever be canon. No more romantic relationships in fiction ever!

Although, there's another subset of fans that would unironically love that.

I don't think you have to worry about Buddie becoming canon OP. I went and looked up various scenes after Buck being bi exploded in my non-911 corner of the Internet and all I can say is if the people shipping Buddie think there's some slow-burn friends-to-lovers secret story going on, they are 1. seeing something that isn't there and 2. they are going to be very disappointed in the end.

It's not the impression I got at all, Buck and Eddie are brothers in bond and arms for sure, I'm not saying there's no reason to ship them because there 100% is, but Buck's bisexuality doesn't involve Eddie beyond the guy worrying that it will change things between him and his best friend. People cutting up scenes in gifsets and putting them out of order to change a narrative isn't canon, no matter how much the shippers might insist it is.

It sounds like you don't watch the show since you said you went and looked up scenes after it was revealed that Buck was bi, and if that's the case, it's unfair of you to say people are "seeing things that aren't there" (the actor who plays Buck has mentioned himself that the things people were seeing absolutely *were* there, and has been intentionally playing it that way for several seasons now) and "will be disappointed in the end" (the showrunner has said that they don't have the endgame planned out, but that them getting together is absolutely an option, and the actors would be in favor of it).

I understand that you wouldn't know these things without being in the fandom, but a lot of info has come out recently, the showrunner confirmed that they originally wanted to do a storyline about Buck being bi a few seasons ago but the network wouldn't let them (they're on a different network now). And not for nothing, but Buck being revealed as bi now was only decided because of actor availablity, the original plan was for Eddie to be revealed as bi this season. And considering that they've been planning for Buck to be bi for a long time and were originally planning on Eddie coming out this season, it seems it was just a matter of which would be revealed as queer *first*. So I don't think anyone can really say so definitively that it absolutely won't happen.

I don't want Buddie because Eddie's the most boring and uninteresting character on the show.
