I love the picture for this secret, LOL.

But yeah, finding ways to filter out fandom drama and nonsense really does help make things so much easier. I often tend to just find a small handful of people to talk to, and I stay in my little corner, and that's that. It's a system that hasn't failed me yet.

at first I was like "You do know 'virtue signaling' is mostly used for clot and often means just people being polite and/or woke"
and then I understood that OP just means antis lmao

The typo of clout made me giggle.

I just assumed they were using it in place of "drama"

I was reading it as "social capitalism" - where people try to amass prestige and followers by posturing.

There's definitely a big difference between someone virtue signalling and someone just being político.

Virtue signaling means a cert as in thing. Just because some people use it incorrectly it doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that OP doesn't know what it is.

Yeah, can recommend this. The fact that other people want to pantomime outrage doesn't mean you have to give their opinions the time of day. And there are much better things to think about, in canon and fandom and everyday life.

I try not to talk to a friend about Bridgerton because they always automatically turn it into some form of virtue signaling for racism. If it's not the characters/show in itself, it's the show runners. If not that, it's the source material. If it's not that, it's the actors. Etc. Etc.

And I appreciate the discussions that have come from all of this, but at what point do you concede that it's problematic and just enjoy the show for what it is for a few days/moments?

I turn to historical romances written by POC authors. I watch historical romances made by POC creators with POC actors.

But I also want to enjoy Bridgerton because it's fluff that is easy for me to enjoy.

Can I live? Can I live?
