I go to sketch comedy when that happens. No conflict that isn't resolved within two minutes and it's always for the laughs.

This is why I have dog grooming videos or old anime/cartoons to rewatch on the side for either after or during some shows that are potentially stressful to watch (I've mostly been doing this with horror movies recently because there's a pile that I've been wanting to watch for ages, while watching an episode of The Loony Tunes show afterwards).

Me and my mom went through this when my dad passed away - we went for crappy reality TV, like Below Deck and Geordie Shore before moving on to old favourites where we knew the endings weren't going to be too awful, like Doctor Who and Downton Abbey. I think I watched Yuri on Ice 5 or 6 times! We got through it over time - I hope you do too.

You know, I was judging you kind of harshly in my head thinking if you are that sensitive you need to seek help. But then I just about cried and plummetted into despair after watching a cute video of a dog competing in an agility test that ended with the dog jumping into their owners arms in delight. (My dog of 18yrs just died.) So clearly I have absolutely no room to judge anyone. I'm sorry you're going through a tough time right now.

Maybe put on a music stream (binaural/lofi), close your eyes and do some breathing exercises? I have to do that sometimes with stress.

I like cooking shows for this. Not the competition ones (although I like those too) but the ones where Mary Berg or Mary Berry or Jamie Oliver show you how to cook something delicious, and then they or their loved ones eat it. I find that type of show very soothing, especially when the host has a friendly low key manner.

Maybe check out floral arrangement videos? Or my favorite, how it's made. It's great, calming, no tension, and educational!

I also recommend anime that are either comedy or for little kids. Low stakes drama and cute /silly storylines, sometimes simple slice of life stuff. Although there was one cooking drama that was soooo over the top about its tense moments, it was comical/ridiculous.

Also, any animal/zoo/aquarium live streams.

highly recommend aquariums. When I had one, I could just watch my fish and the water. Very relaxing and entertaining.

good luck,

I'm sorry OP, sounds like a rough thing to go through. *hug* (if you want one)

This secret helped me see that perhaps the reason why I don't watch a lot of shows/movies is because of the emotional investment wearing me down.

I agree with some other comments upthread about finding something to sort of give your mind a break. Some topics that have helped me:
How-to cooking videos
Crafting videos (drawing, painting, crocheting, nail art)
Cleaning videos help me too, I just sort of discovered them via shorts on YT so now I've gotten a few long form videos on cleaning
Also, if I feel especially anxious, I'll look up videos or tips via Tumblr/Duckduckgo for calming/breathing exercises.

Also, taking time to step away from the screen helps too. Take a 5 minute walk, or just go outside for a moment or two. Do a quick chore (for me I do one of these: clean toilet, sweep/vacuum a small room/area, wipe down a countertop with a sanitizing wipe, pick up trash in one area - usually my desk 😅 - and take trash out)

I have an instagram feed almost entirely of kittens, OP. Just little kittens falling over each other play fighting and getting their faces covered in formula. Oh no! Will fuzzy orange kitten capture her tail between her legs?? The tension is unbearable :D :D :D
