...favorite National Park, American or otherwise? Tell us below.

I loved Gates of the Arctic. I always knew Alaska billed itself as the Last Frontier, but it wasn't until I hiked GotA just before the pandemic that I understood why. It was breathtaking, and I don't think I saw a single soul who wasn't part of our group who wasn't the pilot taking us in and out of there. It was awe inspiring. And I saw at least three different Grizzly Bears, none of which seemed that interested in, or frightened of, us. It was fun. Might also have seen a wolverine, not sure. Gonna count it anyway.

Seriously, if you get the chance then go. If you don't get the chance, then make the chance.

Next on my list of the impossible is Samoa though. That is gonna be a tough get to.

It's weird that this question is framed as "America and all those other countries too, I guess". Especially since the first national park was in Mongolia.

Almost like the majority of contributors to this community are from the United States or something, but please do tell us about your experiences in the Land of the Eternal Blue Sky too.

Oh come on. I hate unnecessary americacentrism as much as the next person but this is really not the smart take you think it was.

I mean... America invented the idea of "national parks" (not the idea of legally protected areas, but the idea and the term of "national parks" specifically) and has the most famous national park system.

Sometimes things are about America because they actually are about America.

Yeah, I mean national parks in a lot of Europe, for example, are basically in name only. Especially in the UK. They just exist to give extra revenue to sign painters and Bed and Breakfast owners, and do jack shit to actually protect the environment from exploitation. Often they prioritize farmers and exploiters in fact. There is constant house building and development in European and UK national parks, a lot of people would kill for a US style national parks system over there.

Dunno about in Mongolia.

Of the ones I've been to, Carlsbad Caverns is both beautiful and majestic. Yellowstone is one of the most amazing places I've ever seen, and I also love the Everglades.

Of the ones I've actually been to (not many), Plitvice Lakes, Croatia. Absolutely breathtaking.

The ones I'd most love to visit: Tongariro, New Zealand both as a LOTR fan and volcano fan, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and Ogasawara in Japan because again volcanoes.

I always really liked Canyon De Chelly. It was pretty close to where I lived growing up. The Grand Canyon is awesome in its vastness and beauty, but Canyon De Chelly was pretty and nice (and much more manageable with enthusiastic and impulsive kids).
