Inspired by secret #6 - what is your comfort media?

Mine used to be reading fic, but I've been without a fandom now and it just doesn't hit right reading random fic. I need that character connection for it to work I guess.

It used to be Doctor Who, but Moffat and Chibnall...

Bob's Burgers. Lately (and oddly) impulse Phasmaphobia streams.

A variety of light-hearted TV shows, so things like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Frasier, Psych and some others.

The LOTR movies if I have the time, everything about them soothes me like little else does. And a few Disney movies that hit the right spot, Lilo and Stitch, Mulan, Enchanted, and some more I can't remember off the top of my head right now.

I don't often re-read books if I want something comforting as I don't tend to have the brain-space for reading, but I will grab the Theif of Time sometimes.

xxxHolic, Adventure Time and the first 4 series of Red Dwarf.
Also I tend to go through cycles of re-listening to music I've been into depending on what kind of 'low' I'm feeling: Like my random Musical numbers playlist, a playlist of anime theme songs/tunes I've had since 2005, Evanescene/Linkin Park or very recently I had been fixated on Steam Powered Giraffe's first few albums (Favorite is still Vice Quadrant part 1 & 2).

Manga: W-Juliet, Flame of Recca, YYH, Velvet Blue Rose

Anime: YYH, the 1990s Sailor Moon, Marmalade Boy

Books: Tamora Pierce's Keladry books. Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books (though that has it's own scale because some of them are godawful and some are excellent and most are thoroughly mediocre in a way that appeals to my nostalgia as the preteen who started off reading Talia's Arrows trilogy).

Games: Harvest Moon games, back when they were Harvest Moon and not Story of Seasons. Friends of Mineral Town remains my fav. version and I still have it on PS1.

We are comfort book twins!

I just recently decided to reread the Tortall books in order. I was surprised at how much of a struggle some of Alanna's books were to get through, reminded myself how much I hate the last of Daine's books, but damn if Kel doesn't 110% hold up and fill me with joy and satisfaction.

Have you read the latest Valdemar books? The ones about the forming of Valdemar? I haven't yet but I heard they were good, not like some of the lackluster later books.

AYRT.

I really like the first Daine book but the rest of the series is kind of meh to me. The first is great though. The Alanna ones are fun but also ROUGH so I reread them only when I'm in the mood for nostalgia rather than actual good writing. Kel's books are peak excellence though and I reread them frequently!

I have read the first two of the founding of Valdemar books. I enjoyed the first one but the second one has dethroned the Silver Gryphon as my personal worst of the books she's written ever. I have the third one but I haven't started it yet because the second one was such a terrible disappointment to me.

TV, usually. Tv episodes are the right length for me. My top comfort shows are Doctor Who, Babylon 5, Buffy, Star Trek, Judging Amy, SPN first 5 seasons, Legend of the Seeker, and Galavant.

Sometimes movies, but usually tv. LOTR, Star Wars, MCU, How to Train Your Dragon mostly for movies. If I really have the time and am in a really bad place, especially LOTR.

I used to read a lot more than I do now. I guess because I read so much for work. Fun reading is less of a thing unless I'm on vacation.

MST3K

I watched it OG and during the pandemic I started rewatching it. A few jokes aged like milk but fortunately its still a pretty good show.

Granada Holmes. It's so soothing. All is (potentially) well with the world when Holmes and Watson are at home in their dear old rooms in Baker Street.

Miss Marple, Joan Hickson edition. Murderers beware! She will sit there quietly knitting, while plotting your downfall.
