Describing someone by political party is just easy shorthand to convey what someone's general beliefs are in a situation where it's relevant but you don't want to have to spend a lot of time explaining things in detail. I'm not sure why it bothers you so much.
People in the US also put stickers on their cars of bands, sports teams, US states, national parks, animals, etc. I don't see what relevance it has.
