The US, for all its big talk about democracy, doesn't actually have politicians that represent the public will. And the citizens at large don't know how to discipline their "representatives" effectively when they try to rip off the public to benefit their rich donors. There's a lot of screaming and anger and an over-emphasis on the meager benefits of voting, because there's very little effective action to correct injustice, wage theft, or the deteriorating standard of living. No one (who didn't own a bank) wanted the bank bailouts. Normal Americans are still paying for them. Take that problem and multiply it by a thousand, and you'll get a sense for why they're so embittered. And I think the only thing that's going to meaningfully change it is if they find a way to exercise power directly and change the things that they want reversed, reformed, and changed.
