Spinning off from National Parks

(Anonymous) 2024-05-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesterday we did favorite National Parks, today I ask: What is your favorite cryptid from a National Park. Globally, including North American ones, I mean.

Gotta be a classic and say... The Grey Man from Ben Macdui in the UK's Cairngorm park. It is a ghost-bigfoot. That is a twofer.

For scary cryptids, the wendigo.

For fun, the mothman. Such a silly boy.

I like Wolpertingers. They're kinda like Jackalopes on shrooms.

What are you reading?

(Anonymous) 2024-05-21 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we had one relatively recent so it may be the same answer, no judgement!

I just started Born A Crime by Trevor Noah and it is fun and funny and a very speedy read. I'm about halfway in and it is living up to the hype.

Legacy of the Vermillion Blade by Jay Tallsquall. It took a couple chapters to get interesting, but I am liking it now.

Georgette Heyer, The Black Moth. One of her earlier ones, so it's rather more unlikely than the later ones, but it's very enjoyable. I can see the film adaptation before my eyes right now, in all its black and white glory (why is there still only one Heyer adaptation???)

What are you playing?

We have a reading thread, might as well have a gaming one as well!

I dove back into og Guild Wars over the weekend because I stumbled on the reddit and they made me nostalgic. It was a lot of fun!

Also forever playing Stardew Valley and Vampire Survivors as a quick game I can pop in and out of.

Just finished Dragon's Dogma 2 and started the NG+.
And I'm finally tackling Act 3 of my Baldur's Gate Durge re-run (started over at the start of Act 2).
Also still doing Genshin Impact. Still have a ton of Fontaine world quests to do but I can't be arsed because I did not like Fontaine.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Getting close to the end, I think. So many things to love about this game but it really would have benefited from a second beta test and possibly a couple months' delay. I hope they fix up the worst bugs soon.

Will probably go back to The Thaumaturge afterward, and possibly Valheim if I can find some folks my own age. And if I get an itch to revisit Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, I might also do that.

Venting, I suppose

(Anonymous) 2024-05-22 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
My son has been accused of something we're fairly confident he didn't do. Another child corroborates his version of events; meanwhile, the kids saying he did it have been picking on him throughout the school year. Despite this happening at school, there are no adult witnesses, so they are relying on the children's accounts. It's a pure numbers game: more of them say he did it than not, and the fact that the kids blaming him are on record as having beat him up doesn't figure into the picture.

The police were called on him. He's in second grade.

I feel this odd sense of helplessness and despair. There's no way to prove he didn't do it. There are no cameras, and, again, no adults to appeal to. He has no means to defend himself. I can demand answers from the school, but I'm his mother -- of course I'd defend him, right? That I believe he didn't do it means nothing, and I completely understand that. But bias can run in the opposite direction, as well, and the way the school is handling the situation seems designed to hand a weapon over to bullies.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I mostly feel terrible, and my mind keeps going in circles, and I needed to get it out.
